The amazing Windows 2000!

Post by Judg3 »

Finally traded enough parts to build a newer machine for my test server. Went from a Celeron 366 to a real P2 400Mhz box without all the builtin stuff (THanks DaMaN and MoFo).
The weirdest thing though...
New CPU, MB, new NIC, new Soundcard and even a diffrent video card... Booted right up into Win2k AS without a hitch or a single complaint! It's the first time this has ever happened for me! Im guessing it's because the CPUs have the same basic core and the mb had the same chipset (I think.. same era - 98-99)

Only one thing though, perhaps this is a FP question. It doesnt pick up one of my sticks of 128mb. The old HP machine did without a problem, but this one only sees 160Mb - 1 128mb and 1 32mb stick I put in.

SiSoft Sandra shows:
Memory Module(s)
Memory Module 1 : Toshiba THMY6416E1EG-80H 000BD100 128MB 16x(8Mx8) SDRAM PC100-222-622 (CL3 upto 125MHz) (CL2 upto 100MHz)
Memory Module 2 : Texas Instruments 128MB 8x(16Mx8) SDRAM PC133U-333-542 (CL3 upto 133MHz) (CL2 upto 100MHz)
Memory Module 3 : Micron 16LSDT464AG-66CL2 1003847E 32MB 16x(2Mx8) SDRAM PC100-333-7501 (CL3 upto 100MHz) (CL2 upto 67MHz) (CL1 upto 33MHz)

The middle stick, TI 128mb PC133, isnt showing up in BIOS or windows. Anyone know why?
It is a dual bank of ram (Chips on both sides) vs the other ram's single bank. May that be it? Just curious... I may take that 128mb stick and put it back in the HP, then make it another folding box for PCA - but i was curious

it could be bad?

the only other thing I can think of is becuase of the one being pc133 while the other 2 are pc100......
especially if they are all set to a cl3
Gone for good. But never say never

Try seeing if it will boot with only the one questionable stick in it. If it wont then I would think it is either bad or has a compatibly issue with the mobo.
