severe computer problem

my 1400mhz t-bird with soyo dragon mobo is acting up alot lately. has rebooted in bios and windows both but mostly in windows while on the internet. also will reboot if the extra coolling fan is switched off now. im at a loss to whats causing it. im thinking my mobo is about to bite the dust. any ideas? will bad ram cause this the exta cooling fan blows on the ram maybe its dying. its generic stuff. worst of it is i have no parts to swap and am broke

I used to have a Soy Dragon that started rebooting. In my case it was a bad stick of ram. A weak power supply could also cause the problem along with a host of other things. If you have two sticks of ram I would suggest running on one and see if the problem persists. You have to just start eliminating the possibilities

Finding the culprit can sometimes be hard to do. But as others I suspect either the psu or ram. Do as dad suggested if you have 2 sticks of ram, try it with just one. And maybe lower the ram settings in the bios.

How are the psu voltage as Billy mentioned?

i got a psu about 3 months ago in anticipation of getting a new dvd burner but that never happened.

the voltages are the same as they ever were 12.10 4.98 3.37. i looked at the soyo site after i posted here and there trouble shooting guide seems to point to the ram. for rebooting as soon as it loads the os the first thing it says to check is the ram and it does a lot of beeping and not initializing which says check the ram. so if i had more ram id check it. i only have one cheapo stick. is it possible that since no ramsink is on it it died early? does anyone have a stick of ddr pc2100 they will sell cheap like under $20 shipped?

if you think it might be heat related reinstall your heatsink - sometime the goop dries out and doesn't conduct any more, also, make sure your heatsink hasn't slipped a little - while you are in there clean the hs out - dust can really reduce your cooling

i never had heatsinks on my ram which may have been a mistake. and i just redid the cpu hsf 3 months ago. ive been in that machine so manytimes this last 2 weeks i bought thumbscrews for the cover.
