Wireless networking hardware
I've been reading some reviews, but I still am haveing a rough time picking the equipment that I want.
So I'm looking for suggestions. I have four comps I want to connect and eventually a laptop. Also printer sharing. Internet, I'm not sure if I want all the comps to have access, maybe two for now. So do any of you have any suggestions.

Thanks for the offer Greg but I think I want to go with a dual band.
What do you guys think of this one? Linksys WAP55AG

The Dual-Band Wireless A+G Access Point actually contains two separate wireless connectivity radio transceivers, which support all three popular wireless networking specifications. The first transceiver uses the 2.4GHz radio band, supporting both the widely-used and inexpensive Wireless-B (802.11b) standard at 11Mbps, and the new, almost five times faster, Wireless-G (draft 802.11g) at 54Mbps. The second radio operates in the 5GHz band, and supports Wireless-A (802.11a) networking, also at 54Mbps. Since the two radios operate in different bands, they can work simultaneously, blanketing your wireless zone with high-speed bandwidth.

Hey nexus,
How fast are those things? I see something there about 54mbs, so is that like half as fast as a 100mbs?
Sometimes things don't equal out, 28.8bps was not twice as fast as 14.4bps although it was alot faster
I'll have to see what I could do with one, if you don't have a bite on it yet, e-mail me.
I been thinking about setting up 2 more systems. One mounted permenantly in a van for specail use and one in the old trailer house a few hundred feet way.
Would be just like me to forget I was pluged in one day and drive off in the van, wrecking the house and lan. So been thinking wireless for that.
Was considering running a cat5 cable to the old house. How well you think a wireless would work for that? Can it carry the distance, and would the alumnium siding interfere?
Also would the weather have much effect on it from house to house?
Do you have hubs and cards, or just the hub?

yea, its about half the speed of the full 100mb. You dont really notice it unless you are transfering files...and then only Big ones. Works fine for the net and lan gaming and anythign else.

WOW, I thought those things were like 400-500 feet maybe, geuss I was a little off?
DO you have a couple pci cards with it or what do they run? And will it actually run securley so my private files are secure and not drive by acessable?

If you secure your network you dont have to worry about the drive by taping in, if you are talking about snifing packets, i believe they are encrypted

Was wondering about security for everything. Data on disks, data over the network, and info sent or recieved from the net over a wireless network.
I'm getting to much crap from everywhere and starting to get paranoid I geuss!!
Spam addressed by name, spam claiming great rates for people in my area by name. How do they know I am in that area?? Even got my city listed!
My unlisted telephone is ringing off the hook with spam calls! I have to unplug it all day so the wife can sleep, 3rd shift worker. Can't even use my own phone now! Fixing to get the number changed I geuss, but what a pain!
So I am kinda concerned about security for everything, since everything is being hacked and attacked!
