Look at the post down there...
I don't know what to get. I'll be moving my 60GXP into my server. I have tons of files, and to save tiem copying, I'll just get a newer faster HDD to replace my 60GXP.
However, I have no idea what to get. I'm thinking about getting the new WD Raptor, I plan on upgrading to an Nforce board soon, however, that Raptor is nowhere near cheap, costing about $192 shipped?
Anyways, I want to get a drive just as quiet, or quiter than my 60GXP. I'm pretty sure the liquid bearing Dimand Max Plus 8's are just as quiet, but their seek time looks lower than my 60GXP. Right now, the 40 Gig liquid bearing is running for $55 shipped at NewEgg, a special.
So, am I right, or wrong? Or, what should I get otherwise?
Thanks.
I need help choosing a new hard drive...
Geez, the raptor? The SATA 10,000RPM drive? Why do you need 10k RPM? hehe. You can get a SATA Seagate Barracuda @ 7200 RPM's and it's only 155$ for an 80Gb drive vs the 195$ for a 36GB WD.
Thats what I plan on doing on my next system, I hear they are real quiet overall, plus I like test9ing new technology as it is hehe. Hell, the GB board I will get comes with all the power & other cables needed for SATA, so why not?

Ah, I didn't know there were any other SATA drives out there yet..
I like speed. Hell, I'm looking at two 512mb PC3200 LL Corsair ram sticks for the next nforce board I plan on getting. I'm thinkin, hey, since I'm upgrading, might as well make my upgrade last.
I'll look into that Seagate drive though.
Thanks.

Ok, I am really leaning towards the 40gb Maxtor liquid bearing drive. I always thought those drives were faster. I don't want to go from a faster drive to a slower one. Here's a link to it...
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.a ... 133&DEPA=1
It says less than 10ms for seek time. My 60GXP is something like less than 9. Can someone clerify this for me?
I still want a quiet harddrive, but I still want it fast also.
I need some help here people....

Added:
I jsut thought of something. I could go ahead and make the 6E040L0 my "file storage". By that, I mean I copy everything off my 60GXP onto the new Maxtor, and put the maxtor in the server. The server is at ata66, not taking advantage of the ata133 though. However, the maxtor does run cooler and quieter. However, it is also pretty slow compared to the 60GXP (according to storage review). I only have Ultra ATA 100 right now, and don't plan on buying any ata133 cards cause I plan on upgrading my whole setup sooner or later. Anyways, I guess I could get any 40gb hd to put in the server, but its only 59 shipped at Newegg anyway.... Hmm, again, I need some opinions here.
Thanks again.
Another Update:
Searched around, and decided I may go with the 60GB Diamond Max 9's on Newegg (with the 8mb cache). I think they are $94 shipped right now. They seem pretty nice. Any opinions here? (I might go for the 2 mb cache one too, again, I need opinions) Thanks!
