NEW LCD Monitor!

Post by FanTum »

Just got this tonight a KDS 19" LCD Monitor RAD-9. Got it cause it was a crazy deal on a display model at CompUSA. Anyway anyone have some tips for me, seems on some games theres a bit of trailing or ghosting when i look around. Anyone know of some adjustment to make or settings to clear it up a bit?

Reg price was 799.99 got em' down to 449.99 with a free DVI cable.

The lower the response time the less likely you'll notice ghosting during gameplay.

Seems to help a little bit. My desktop is clear as anything just games r a little fuzzy when moving. Maybe I'm just not used to these monitors.

I tried messin with anit-liasing and anisotropic filtering but those seem to make my games dull, turn em all off and everything sharpens and brightens. Go figure!

The problem is the response time, that is the time that a pixel needs to switch from black-to-white and back. Your KDS has a Response Time of 35ms typical according to KDS webpage. You want a response time of 24ms (or lower) to prevent ghosting. The good old CRTs manage 3ms ;)

I got nothin to lose, I have 14 days to take back if I don't like it. Seems older games like Deus Ex have ghosting. I ran BF 1942, not bad, and UT 2003 at 1280/1204 looks sweet!

It's only recently that desktop LCD can do a decent job with games. Even so, most LCD monitors today still aren't very good.

My suggestion is to get a decent PCI card that can push high-rez, make the LCD your secondary monitor, and put back the CRT as your primary. At least, that's the config on my machine...

Hitachi has the fastest response time of 16ms, on it's new 17" LCD display, CML174, priced at $575USD.

Those 16ms sound sweet but have yet to be proven in tests .... so far they couldn't keep that promise (taking from recent C'T magazin test on LCD monitors).
