Microtek C893 18" LCD. $398 at Walmart.

I was over at the super Walmart and they had a palette of these things. I figured they were junk so I did an online search.

That model is so new it's not listed, but the 17" version is and it got high marks as a gamer's monitor here:
http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/mon ... 83gm/1.htm

The 18" has the same dot pitch and pixel size but it's 1280x1024 native resolution.

Sounds like a nice monitor for a nice price. Thinking of replacing my second display with one.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a DVI input (the 17" doesn't either).

Anyone have any opinions on Microtek monitors?

well i can tell ya that those people there know nothing about pc's and warrentys so if u get it you can always return it as long as they still sell it this is coming from a former working of Wal-Mart we took back stuff that was broke because of user error. Just say a virus did it and they will take it even if it was broken :D

It's apparently a WalMart Exclusive deal, which is probably one of the reasons it's so damn hard to find this thing on the 'net.

Prices seem to be on the decline as of late...BestBuy has a KOGi 17.1 for $300 AR, while CompUSA has the (same?) KOGi monitor for $280 AR. And Global Computers has a Systemax 18.1 for $400 AR.

Personally, I will pass on a newer LCD until next year, mainly cuz of the rez...my ViewSonic CRT (18" viewable) is at 1600x1200, while the Rad-5 I bought last year (for $250 AR...nice deal back then) only does 1024x768...and I just wish this thing could do 1280x1024. Trading up in size for the rez I would prefer on the smaller size doesn't make sense to my wallet at this time.

But hey, if I didn't have an LCD for my second monitor already, I'd probably be all over this deal...

There's a rather extensive thread over at Anand's hot deal forum about this monitor. Way over 200 posts now.
