EASY chipset fan replacement for IWill XP333 owners!

Post by FlyingPenguin »

The chipset fan on my IWill XP333 mobo was starting to act up. I was going to replace it with one of the Vantec Iceberg chipset coolers and as I was making measurements I began to realize that the fan on the Vantec Iceberg is identical to the one on the chipset cooler on the mobo.

It's one of those round 40mm fans.

Turned out it's a nearly perfect fit. Pleases me as I wasn't looking forward to pulling the mobo out of the case to replace the cooler.

You can get the cooler here for $9: http://store.yahoo.com/directron/ccba1a.html

If anyone ever spots these fans fold by themselves I'd love to know.

That sucks that the fan went out. I think the fan on the XP333's looks sweet. Its a easy fix though since they use the push tabs and thermal paste.

Don't toss that fan yet!

I was told by tech support for Iwill that fan is also under wurantee! Just RMA the board! :)
Well you could go the easy way and just do the fan!
Direct from Iwill tech suport to you by way of me on a sideline through yahoo etc etc...

"Yes, That includes the FAN
You will have to send in motherboard w/ fan and get a replacement unit
or
send in fan and get a replacement fan
or purchase a fan for 7$

The fan covers your northbridge chipset which if it gets to hot you
will get
lock ups and other issues."

There is a 2year warranty on all newly purchased motherboards.
> Warrenty
> cover almost everything except there is physical damage done to the
> motherboard then there would be a 45$ repair fee.

2 yrs on the fan! Ya, I'll RMA that when needed.
Mine does not seem to like the cold. Sometimes growls and slows to a crawl like a bad bearing, but only when booting and room temps are fairly low. A couple taps with a finger generally fixes it though.
Gonna see about buying a replacement then if I have too I'll RMA them as needed. Mine is only about 6 months old now so at that rate it's about 4 in two yrs.
