problems with optical mouse and cd drives

well my mouse just like to like stop shooting the laser and then i hear this windows sound and then it works again all my programs are closed and its just annoying when playing ut2003

my drives only are read like 1/3 of the time and i don't know what wrong must be something in bios?

is it a usb mouse ? is it sharing the same irq as the soundcard ? I had a similar problem with my optical mouse and my Acoustic edge. I just turned off the usb and used the adapter to lug in to the ps2 mouseport and the problem dissapeared.

Are you sure it's not a broken wire on the mouse? The wire tends to break where it enters the mouse. Wiggle the wire around and see if it happens.

If it's a Microsoft mouse, they'll replace it under warranty.
