MATT your experience is the exception.

Routers are nearly plug and play now (they really are on most cable systems where all you do if hook them up and walk away - DHCP does the rest. For DSL you have a little more work to do - entering your username and password in the router's setup menu if you're using PPPOE).

I've done dozens of router installs. It's absurdly easy. Only time I ever had any problems was with a couple of the early Linksys routers - they had a lot of BIOS problems in the early days.

For a LAN party the router route is the best way to go. No fiddling, no tweaking, no grounds and screams of anger when you have to reboot the server.

Using ICS is not a smart way to go for a LAN party unless it's a dedicated system.
