HEEELP!! My Afreey 10x Dvd Drive won't read CDR or CDRW ANYMORE, firmware maybe?

Post by kzaman »

Just recently the stupid dvd drive stopped working completely, so i open it up and volla, the "thing" that revolves the dvd's had fallen off into the corner, so i put it back and turned it on. For hours i tried taking it apart to somehow make it work since i was sticking a cdr in there, then i tried a dvd and it WORKED.

Anyway, so it won't read anything else buy dvd's, which sux!

My question is.... anyone else had an experience like this with this drive? I've already searched for a firmware update, couldn't find anything but a region free update. Went to http://www.afreey.com , doesn't work, http://www.afreey.com.tw , works but only the chinese section, which i tried but couldn't find anything there either.

Comments appreciated, thanks!

I have an afreey 10x drd drive also and it has always worked well, but a few months ago it started being dominant. Whatever drive I put on the same channel, only the afreey would work. Tried changing cables, reversing jumpers, etc.. weird

Found this page
http://www20.brinkster.com/zekoslav/dvdfirmware.htm

says: <i>"The 41 firmware fix some reading bugs."</i>
Not sure if that will help but it's worth a try.

I tried afreey's site, it is down. It might be back up later unless they went under as others have.

btw, welcome to pca. :)
