Dell, Toshiba, IBM, and Sony make the best laptops IMO. Sony's are really expensive, but really nice. IBMs and Dells are more pricey but reliable. Toshibas are probably the best you are going to find at some place like best buy.

I'd go with dell. The prices are competetive but the service is excellent. Look at the dell refurbs but get that extra warrenty.

I've had good luck with Dells. I have one at work and one I own. I also hear that http://www.sagernotebook.com/ makes good laptops and that they are the same ones that Alienware sells, they just rebadge them.

I bought my Toshiba from BB last fall, no complaints with the laptop. Go to their online store and decide what your minimum needs are as every added speed and option brings the price up by about $100. There are also some laptops that are on sale ONLY through their websight, NOT in their stores for some odd reason so you might be able to save $200 online.
The one I bought was $200 off online but when I tryed to purchase it, it said "out of stock, stores only" and at the local store they wanted $200 more. I had to complain to management there and they weren't very happy about it (obvious bad attitude but did sell it to me for $200 off).

OT but I think Best Buys overall customer relations suck, now based on 2 recent sales experiences (my latest being a bad Pioneer XM radio STILL not fixed, died slightly outside their 30 day free replacement, sent to Pioneer who just receiced it after 3 weeks :( )
