Hi all,
I have Bellsouth DSL (June 2001) and had a choice of modems to choose from. I chose the 3Com pci modem (3CP3617B-BSO). About a week ago I started having trouble and called tech support...he came to the conclusion that my 3Com modem had died and they don't offer this modem anymore. Still under warrentee they have sent a new modem...ACL TEL external modem. I have not opened this modem because while setting-up the dialup connection I discovered it was just the phone line was bad from the wall jack to the modem. I did tell tech support on the phone about the mistake and he basiclly said to keep the one I wanted.
Which modem is better? Any advice is appreciated.

is it ACL Tel? or did you mean Alcatel... Alcatel makes some mighty nice networking gear...
Well I've a similar situation
I've DSL that is on 24/7... a while back when I got my DSL up, my ISP sent me 2 modems... both were Zyxels (I think that was the name)
Both were fine... so basically I've been switching back and forth between the 2 whenever my connection gets funny

Thanks for the replies...
FP I was just curious if anyone knew any issues with the 3COM modem because the tech dude had said it was a troublesome modem...I've not had any problems with this modem but thought this was a great chance to swap if it had known issues.
ED You're right it is Alcatel....easy to see I don't know much about these things. They use a triangle with an upsidedown triangle on top of it as the center 'A'. I went to their website and may just give it a try.
Thanks again for the replies,
