Scanner Problems

Post by dadx2mj »

OK I figure this is a long shot and I probably just need to buy a good scanner but heck it is worth a shot anyway. I was given a Umax Asstra 1220u flatbed scanner. It scans text documents just fine but when ever I scan picutres I get yellow streaks or lines running vertically threw the pictures. I am using XP Pro and the Scanner and Camera Wizzard to aquire the pictures. Anyone have any idea of settings or other software that might help. Thanks for any ideas

I had that happen on an older scanner and I took it apart and cleaned the light bar that scans across and that solved the problem. Also cleaned under the glass too. Maybe blow out any dust while your there.

I'd think that's it. If not check staples and see if they still have the visioneer scanner free after rebate. I got a visioneer onetouch 8100 free after an $80 rebate and using a $20 off a $100 online. If they don't have it now they probably will soon. They seem to have that deal or a similar one frequently.

I would try what Blade suggests. Do a goggle search on cleaning scanners - I remember finding a site or some usenet posts with some good tips.

Didn't do me any good though. I had an HP scanner that I used very little. After a year and a half, it was toast.... :(

Thanks fro the replies guys. Guess I try taking it apart and giving it a good cleaning. It was a freebie so I have nothing to lose.

EDIT: Damn that was so easy. Two screws and it came apart a little cleaning of the light and insides and the streaks are gone. Thanks again guys.
