odd video off problem with 8500

Post by wvjohn »

last night while playing D2x online had my video turn off 2x - as if it went into sleep mode (which is disabled as is all power stuff) - froze the puter - on reboot everything's fine for about 1/2 hr. wasn't on long enough to see if it would do it a third time - my first thought is heat - mbm showed 44 C under full load for cpu - haven't opened case to see if fan on vid card is still ok - it might be related to D2x since the servers are still being crashed by hacks, cheats, etc. but the complete loss of the video is odd - i'll laod up 3dmarks and loop it for a coupla hours tonight if i get a chance -

anyone seen anything similar with an 8500?

ak31 rev 2
1.33 ayhja @ 1.4
radeon 8500 default

1 Q comes to mind: what OS? If W2K or XP... that's a nice bug :)

my bad win2k -

D2x has more hacksters per square inch than counterstrike - mostly because anything they can steal or dupe they sell on fleabay

Just SWAG thoughts :)

Does the event viewer ( any of them ) show anything at the time this happened?
Is the temp you quoted well within the normal range? How bout Volts?
Do you run anything like Zone Alarm, which MIGHT pick up someone playing with you remotely?

Or: :D One reason I like to buy brand name ( Diamond til they went bad, then ATI and matrox... now ASUS perhaps ) is that they have decent tech support. You might try them and see if they have others reporting something similar.
