What a friggin' day...

Post by PreDatoR »

Ok more probs with this POS... Now WinXP is locking up... It just gets into windows and poof lock... Couple of times it rebooted but normally locks... Has ran fine all day long with no problems whatsoever. The about 2 hrs ago it locks... Then all this shit... Tried everything pulled all the card switched PSU's switched cables does the same damn thing everytime... I do notice right when it locks is when it loads SB Live's AudioHQ shit... Wonderinf if that is what is doing it but i can't even get into Safe Mode to take it out... GRRR I'm at wits end with this son of a bitch... Anyone got any idea's... Or had probs with XP... I switched cases today it ran fine for 4-5 hrs with no problems now nothing... The config is the same except that there's another NIC in it now but it ran fine with the other NIC in for about 8 hours... GRRRRR I've tried everything i can think of... Next thing i might just try the 12 guage treatment! :|

You said you pulled all the cards but then you said it had another nic in it so I am a little confused. Did you set it back to default speed? I would assume you already did that. So are you saying that it locks up at default speed and nothing but the vid card ram and hdd?

Yeah it does it with just vid card ram and hdd... Its got me baffled... Wondering if myinstall of XP got FUBAR'd somehow... Earlier i locked up once i just clocked it back to stock speed.. Ran fine for quite a while and now this shit... Its sitting here now rebooting in an infanite loop.... Its got me... thought maybe it a PSU prob cause i was using the 300watter that came with it so i popped my enermax 350 watt back in since i know it worked on that and still does it... U would think if the processor was bad it wouldn't even boot.... Gonna try putting my 1.33 in next see if it clears it up... The chip ain't runnin' too hot only 96 with the covers off at stock...

Now THAT is not a good sign, you have to find out why you get this tingly feeling.
You could take the mobo out and check if there might've slipped a screw behind it or some piece of metal.

Do you get this tingly something only when the PC runs or also when it's off ?
If also when system is off, remove the mobo power connector and see if that stops it.

I got a tingly feeling once but I was no where near a computer. :p

Sure does sound like a grounding problem.

Yeah it does it when its off unplug the cord it does it till the caps are drained would be my guess... We don't have grounds in our wall outlets its an older house so i'm wondering if that has something to do with it... Really pissing me off... Everything was fine in the other case just switched cases and its donig this now... gonna pull the mobo out put the bitch together setting on my desk and boot it to see what it does... I might have to get a bunch of nylon washers at home deopt today...

Ok guys got an update... I knew it if was a grounding problem if i pulled all the shit outta my case and set it up it should work... So i tore it all out set it up on a static bag... with all card and everything like before minus the floppy and cdrw... LOCK LOCK LOCK pulled all cards minus the vid LOCK So i'm like WTF! Said :p :p :p :p it pulled the HSF yanked out the XP put in my 1.33 Bird and BAM! been runnin' 3dmark2k1 demo for 30 min now no problems... I did notice, i used Artic Alumina on it... I got a little too much and it smushed out the side when the HSF was put on... Well as most know the XP's are organic while hte birds are ceramic... That arctic alumina soaked into the organic on the chip you could see it all the way around the core so i'm wondering if that wasn't the problem... I wiped the xp down with alcohol really good and am gonna attempt it again later after its dried off good... If it don't work back to new egg it goes...

i had the same problem one time with xp

Post by fearfox »

i had same problem the only way i fixed it was to hold ctrl button and go to last known good hardware configuration. it ran fine for about two hours then it locked up again. i had to reformat hardrive i had to install xp again. i have no idea why it does it. difference was the that mine pass the win xp logo screen then on log on screen blue screen poop it will reset for no apparent reason.

maybe you will have to unistall xp or repar it i guees?

Gonna get some PC2700 in another month and an IwillXP333 just save the XP for then or sell it...

I got an RMA from newegg and sending it back... I cleaned it up real good waited a few hours and still did the same thing... I'm finding out a few other people are having problems with their XP's on the 8k7a. I'm kinda leary of the artic alumina now... It totally looked like a greasy substance had soaked into the organic part of the chip about 3/8inch all hte way around the core... IT did clean up on the surface don't know if anything actually soaked into it or not... All i know is that my T-Bird hasn't given me a bit of trouble all day long sincei put it back in....
