Whats the difference between all the Radeons?

Post by succubiss »

I'm looking for a Radeon with TV out and DDR memory.

i've seen the 7000, 7200, 7500, 8500. on ati's site it doesnt make a clear distinction between the models. I'm sure a higher number means a more powerful card, but what exactly are the differences?

I'm probably going to go for newegg's ATI OEM RADEON 7000 32MB DDR W/TV for $51 shipped.

Are OEM's slower than retail?

Thanks.

just be sure you get a VIVO (Video In/ Video Out). All-in-Wonder means that it had S-Video (higher quality video out) and such. OEM just means you're just buying the video card, no software, no warrenty, etc.

I think it's like this (not 100% sure):

- 7000 = old Radeon 32MB LE (or was it VE)

- 7200 = old Radeon 64MB VIVO

- 7500 = new Radeon 64MB, same core as old Radeon but faster clockspeed

- 8500 = new Radeon 64 MB with new core for DX8 features

OEM ATI cards are in general slower than the Retail cards and they might not have additional stuff like extra TV cables.

there is no more vivo. the 200 is 64meg SDR agp. the vivp was replaced by the 7500 and removed the VI part. there IS a herc card comming out that is a 7500 aiw. should be out with in a month. if you are looking for aiw the 7500 is better then the radeon aiw but no 8500DV. Just letting U know.

i found a pretty good page detailing the differences:

looks like i'll steer clear of the 7000 for now.
