I want to hear from those that have built/are building/or are running a DDR setup and I want to know what your guys' opinions of the whole deal is. Do you think it's a significant increase in more things than just benchmarks? Do you think it's worth the money you spent? Have you been happy with your setup or has it caused you lots of truobles? Can you see any real-world performance gain?

Just some quetions and feel free to add on. I'm just curious what people think of it all. I can only dream right now cause I don't have a job and am in dire need of cash, but I'm still curious....

I would think the best move at this point would be to start checking out motherboard reviews as the mobos from different mfgrs come out. That component seems to be stumbling block at this point. What with the ALi and VIA platforms getting less than glowing reviews, I'd go the AMD 761 chipset route if I was going to go DDR. Check out Abit's KG7-RAID that was recently releasded. That's an AMD chipset.

Another upside is that DDR memory has really fallen in price.

I'm staying with an sdr platform for awhile as I'm happy with the KT133A performance and it enabled me to use memory that I already had. Plus at this point, I'm broke.

For the pricing of DDR memory right now, there is no reason not to go DDR. But i think there was so much hype about DDR..it's failed to live up expectation. It only offers somewhere between 2-5% advantage over SDR. Anything under 10% you supposidly cant tell the difference. But since its cheap, why not?

I can't find the link right now but there was a preview of the SiS chipset for AMD DDR platforms and it beat the snot out of all the other DDR chipsets out there.. including AMD's, in performance. Yea, I know.. SiS of all companies.

Well they also say as chipsets are getting better, that you'll see more out of the DDR ram than you do now. Time will see...but i think we will see some slight improvements..nothing huge. It's still worth it in the end..it is the future for now. DDR is cheap as hell also.

Sold one stick of Crucial PC133 cas 2 256MB ram for $50. After buying one stick of 256MB PC 2100 DDR cas 2.5 for $60. $10 for 10% performance gain on an AMD 761 chipset..... I think it's worth it.

i'm kind of interested to see how the nividia mobos will play out - a lot of the problems with all the mobos is the internal throughput and they are using some new stuff on the mobos - i have kt133/bx systems and a ton of cheap good sdram and can't really see the point of upgrading anything for less than a big boost - i am replacing an intel 810 system with a sis integrated tbird though
