hmm... it's weekend and I had thought installing new mobo and processor to my old chassis.

I don't have any thermal paste at home.

can I test processor anyway even without paste ?

I'm not overclocking etc. it, cooling fan is one which comes with 'boxed' package.

Application of the predominantly pre-assembled pads is quite simple to figure out: remove the protective film, assemble cooler, turn on your PC, and that's it. The downsides of the pads are that they can only be used once, and when upgrading your processor, cleaning the contact surface is not all that easy.

For this reason, those who regularly change the CPU should opt for thermal paste instead of a pad.

AMD recommends a pad only. I usually use the pad for the initial install, then if I remove the HSF for some reason, I go with paste. I use Radio Shack paste too. It sells for about $2 a tube & works damn near as good as the high priced stuff, but I'm sure many will sing the praises of Arctic Silver.

Scrape the old pad off with a non-metal object - the edge of a credit card or something similar works well. Clean off the residue with some sort of solvent that doesn't leave a residue of it's own behind. Goofoff works well, so does lacquer thinner, acetone, or alcohol (100% if you can find it). Once it's clean, do NOT touch the bottom of the heatsink or the CPU core - dirt, skin oil, fingerprints, etc can contaminate the surface & reduce thermal transfer.

Arctic Silver has excellent instructions. Follow them no matter which brand of paste you use:

so it really seems there is pad included with my boxed processor.

since I'm not changing processors really often... I could just use pad instead of paste ?

pads are ok, just remeber not reuse it. if you suck as twist it sligtly its worthless.

you never know how much heat a cpu can take.
depends on surface area and how much heat is getting moved if you have a cap you MAY get by but you have no idea how well it was sealed to the core.
paste's are cheaper than cpus. so how much money you wanna spend will tell you if its worth the risk

but those 2 links I added... it seems that you can't even use pad and paste simultaneously ?

pad should be enought if I'm not going to overclock processor ?

I'm not really 'handy' person, so I really don't even want to start messing around with
paste if I really don't have to... I just saw this example how someone had put paste to his processor...

sorry my incompetent skills in english.

so if I do someting wrong while placing processor to mobo... pad might not work correctly ?

or when I place cooler to top of prosessor ?

use paste, dont run without anything, todays cpus dissipate so many watts that they can fry very quickly without proper hs/cpu contact, the paste fills in gaps to achieve this

its when the hsf(cooler) touches that it cant move the pad sticks to the prosessor and will peel away making it ineffective.

NO NO NO!!!!! its just one(just one). They are the same,pads are one time use and Easy to applie, paste is for multiple trys Easy to wipe off and retry.
