Should I move from the A7N8X Deluxe to the NF7-S?

All things AMD. The best motherboards, COOLING setup, overclocking, how to, etc..

Should I buy the Abit NF7-S and sell my Asus A7N8X Deluxe

Done. Thanks Sean. My other forum site has been down for a long time now. :(

I hope http://www.Xport1.com can get the forums back up soon. They must be messing around with the format or something. I sure like their custom laser-etched windows, as I have two in the works for my new case. :cool :

Please just leave them linked, to save bandwidth. :)

I'm a LITTLE tired, so I didn't do much.

Also, took a closer look at the Abit board. For a minute, I thought it didn't have SATA Raid, which I plan on using, but then learned by looking in the manual that it did. So, my final question is...just how different is the sound quality on these two motherboards? Here's what the A7N8X says:

- Realtek ALC650 6CH w/built in HP amplifier
- Integrated APU (Audio Processor Unit)
- SoundStorm / Dolby Digital (AC-3) Encoder

And here's the NF7-S

- 6-Channel AC 97 CODEC on board
- Professional digital audio interface supports 24-bit S/PDIF Out
- Supports real time AC-3 Encode by Soundstorm Technology

Does the NF7-S have the APU also???? little confused here... :)

Not sure if it's just semantics or if they're different. I don't use the o/b sound. I tried it, wasn't bad at all but my Herc Game Theater XP has alot more punch.

Since I took that pic I've installed the sound card and am also using the SATA with a single drive ( WD1200JB 8MB cache thingy ) via the Abit supplied adapter kit. They only give ya one tho. So if you're gonna use the SATA in a RAID 0, you'll need to use SATA hdd's or get another adapter kit if you're using ATA100/133 hdd's.

Vid. I wanted to ask, does the NF7-S use the internal Diode? I know the A7N8X does, and from ym reading, I'm lead that the ABIT does not.

If not, I'll probably have a temp diode down there anyway. :)

Still not sure what I want to do... :o

I got the board last Thursday. I actually got a car this weekend, so I've been busy cleaning it up. It's been lots of fun! Then I remember that I have to take a fewq computers apart! :D

I'll let you guys know how it goes!

Whoa, I was thinking of switching over from the Gigabyte GA-7N400-L1 board to the Abit NF7-S ver.2.0 after reading up on it last night. It seemed to have a lot of nice features and was reasonably priced considering all the extras. The Asus Deluxe was much more expensive. Both have UGLY PCB boards though. I like those boards with the blue backing PCB. ;)

Someone here told me to look into the Abit NF7-S in fact. The NF7-S looks pretty sweet. Haven't made a final decision yet, need to research a few others like Biostar and MSI.

Good luck Sean.

got it installed and running. My first impressions were very nice. They even have a screen telling you BIOS settings are changing! The love thise BIOS a LOT more than the A7N8X BIOS. Yeah, the PCB is pretty ugly and I had to snad down onw corner of my heatsink's xbrace (so it didn't interfere with one of my mobo headers) but it's damn nice. No ocing yet, but I think I already have better results then I did with my Asus at default (in 3dmark that is).

Sold my asus to a friend. I love this baord already, I just hope is oc's ok. :D

Nothing like a new motherboard to warm your heart. Did you reinstall the OS, or just update the chipset drivers and cross your fingers?

By the way, I'm back from a 2-week drive through Florida. It was a nice vacation. :D
