AT7 Boot Problem

Post by HeadShok »

So far i have had no probs at all with this setup
This mornig i turned on the PC. Went to brush my teeth
and when i came back it was stuck on the Highpoint detection
i hit reset and it booted fine.
did some reading, forums, email ect. and shut down.
Came home from work and turned it on and it stopped on detecting IDE devices.
I hit restart and it went to the Highpoint screen and stopped again.
WTF!!!!!????????
I hit reset and it booted fine.
Now my voltages are fluctuating[most of them]
Could my PSU be on the way out?

This is my Rig

It's hard to believe that an Antec sx1240 w/400w PSU would start failing on you, especially since your system sounds fairly new and you aren't overclocking. It is certainly a possibility that the power supply voltage regulation is failing, perhaps on just one or two outputs. I would swap in another power supply if I had one, as a quick check. If you don't have one, I suggest the following:

(1) Install Motherboard Monitor
(2) Configure it to monitor the voltage output levels for 12V, 5V, etc.
(3) Have the software plot out the voltage over time - initially for an hour, then 2 hours, etc.
(4) If you see random drops or surges, it could be the power supply (likely), but maybe the motherboard or a connector has a temporary short condition. To be sure, check all connectors, especially ones that are not connected (laying in the case, possibly touching the metal parts).

Don't forget to see if your power supply is under any kind of warranty. If it is failing, you might be able to get a replacement. Good luck! :D
