I recently did a trade with someone from ARs. This person had a few ebay refernces and many posts on that forum. He says that he shipped the item last tuesday, insured, and it has yet to arrive. I asked him for the tracker and he claimed that he didnt get one because its too expensive. Curious, but is it common for Priority mail to take a week like this?

Delivery Confirmation is the post office version of a tracking number and it costs about 39 cents I can't understand why the person is saying that its too expensive

i am thinking the insured # acts as a tracking number too..
I have had trouble with Priority mail taking long too...7-10 days from east coast to west

if he insured the package that number can also track the package just as delivery confirmation does.

I live in the boonies in extreme No. Calif. It isn't unusual for priority mail to take 5 days or longer to get to the east coast from here or vice versa.
As for delivery confirmation, that only means that they will send the slip back to you after they have delivered it. There is no, repeat NO tracking capability on that 35 cent POS scam the P.O. is running. I've averaged about 50% on getting the slip back on SUCCESSFUL deliveries. It is really really useless.
If you want tracking, use UPS or Certified or Registered mail.

Zak, I sent something from FL to West Va. a couple weeks ago, insured, and it took like 5 days. His package may not have even gotten out till Wed. I'd give it at least a couple more days before getting nervous.

I don't know what is up with the mail latly. They are charging more and moving slower. I would give it another day or two. Hope it all works out for you.

What are you talking about?
You don't get back any slip "ever" w/USPS Delivery Confirmation numbers and it isn't supposed to be used for tracking regardlessly. It's just a form of "proof of delivery" for few extra cents (which is nice compared to "I never got that package") and has a nice feature that you can sometime check "when" that person actually shipped the item to when he said he shipped it. It's not perfect but lets not expect things that it isn't even intended for or supplies.
So what "slip" did you ever get back anyway? You mean "Certified Mail" maybe and even then you always get your return receipt unless it gets losts. By then I would either bitch to your post master and maybe the post master general himself.

As w/all the things you purchase, the shipper is ultimately responsible for the buyer to receive the item in the condition said or implied, unless the buyer specifically asked for special shipping request. This point has been beaten w/that ugly stick for the longest time and is universally agree by almost everyone. If the shipper wanted to save few pennies and passed on any safty precautions then it's all on him. Wait few days and check the shipped date posted on the package to see if he sent when he said he did. I had few deals from some w/great evals on Heatware who shipped items a lot later than the date they said they did but I got it, so it really doesn't matter I guess. (tells you the type of person they are though) Give it few more days and give him hell if you don't. Good luck.

Heres a kicker, to claim over 50 for insurance, the package has to be misiing 30+ days...with delivery confirmation, it only ahs to be missing 7 + days.

well, if it's insured over $50, doesn't USPS have tracking included w/ that? they said it was suppose to.... i thought anyway.

I use delivery confirmation for tracking all the time I go to the usps website click on over to the track/confirm page and when I enter the del con number it generally tells me the status right up until its actually delivered most of the time anyway
I always assumed it was meant for tracking also not just for confirmation
