Ok after surfing the boards I seem to have gotten a few things that of course need some other little thing in order to make them work.

So, I need a case for a computer. It can be a regular computer case, or I would much rather get a nice server case. Something that can hold about 10-20 3.5 harddrives and multiple power supplies.

Heh, I think that I might be asking a bit much there though.

you might try looking at the Dynapower Metis case. it's decent, got an okay power supply, and has lots of room for expansion. best of all, it's cheap as hell. got mine for bout 35 shipped from newegg (which rapes on shipping)

On the flipside, if you are willing to spend $250 for a case, I highly recommend the Lian-Li V2000 (silver or black). My friend purchased one and it is superb! Holds 12 HDD and you can mount more in the 5.25'' bays.

no offence- but id stay away from that dynacase for a server- we have two computers at work that are basic workstations and It is barely suitable for that -let alone a server

something that will hold 10 hd's - you may want to look at in win and supermicro

I've got a case right now that will hold 12 hard drives comfortibly, 8 more with mods and cramming.

Now upon looking for full retail server cases, I found this one but I fail to see how a dual redundant 300 watt power supply would allow you to fill this case and still be able to power everything up. Here's a couple other cases for consideration. 1,2 The last one I actually called the company for more pictures.


This Hard Drive cooler deserves honorible mention though. Out of all of them I've seen, this looks the best insofar as no dust to clean up


This looks like a nice solution to adding more power to your system. Although it does take up a very valuable 5 1/4 drive bay. A little expensive as well.

Looking around for power supplies for the server case, I found this brand. Has anybody heard of these before and what is your take on them?

I like the case that I linked to up above. Link name says number 2. I found the same case from someone else for like 180 bucks. Just have to see who charges less. Though the site I linked to above, (link that says 2, it does state next to the description that it includes a psu. I wonder if I should buy it from them and when it comes without one, bitch about it because it says it does come with one.

As far as multiple PSU's, I alos linked to an add-on psu. I believe you hook it up to the MB, and then you hook your main PSU into their plug. So when you power-up the MB, it senses the power on signal and turns on. I would think that this would be about the only way I could support more then 8 drives in a case plus fans.

Ok after going through messages last night, someone mentioned getting the Lian Li Lian-Li V2000B case. So I had to check out their object of desire. What I am pissed about now is why didn't anybody mention this case earlier!!!!!! It's real nice.

Nice eh? Ok, since I am worried, I buy stuff and get excited about it, just to be disappointed later because I didn't see the trees for the forest, I wanted to ask you all if these are things to be worried about or not. For one, there are holes all over the case. I am worried about this being a clean-up issue with dust and all. Two, Should I mod it from them? If you look at the bottom of the page it shows a lot of different options for modding, or should I just get the case and love it? Three, how in the heck does it hold 12 drives on the bottom rack? I can't figure it out. Also, power is going to be an issue. How can I solve this? I have an amd approved PS I would want to put into this, but it has a fan on the bottom of it, ,this case has the PSU mounted in the bottom.

The bottom looks like it only supports 6 drives, though the specs says 12, I am not worried about it because I found Lian Li's answer to the Bay Cooler III(see my third? post for linkage) Here.

Nice as well eh? I think it is also cheaper then the Bay Cooler as well.

just kidding. i dont really like the way they made the front, but whatever. i'll never get a Lian Li anyway. (personal preference)

Whats ugly, the drive bay case, or the case itself? I like it because it offers a solution to some problems I am having. Cooling and space limitations. Personally I feel they are a little high priced, but everyone I talked to about them so far has voiced the opinion that they are worth it in the end.

i was referring to the rather wide pored mesh. I dont like it... allows you to see too much inside. looks uneven, and unattractive.

my school has lots of G-5's in the computer lab. aside from the lack of more drives, the front case looks well designed and very attractive. the front of this one looks like a bad ripoff of it.

I like the interior design of the case, the upside down mounting of the motherboard and all. but damn, i cant stand that front grill.

Hmm, well two things bother me about this case right now, $ and $. LOL

I am trying to get peoples opinion here, so please check out the links and report back on how you feel about stuff. I am uncertain on how to go here, should I go for the seerver case, or should I go with the Lian Li case? I think the BayCooler is cool though, converting 2 drive spaces into three always helps trip your trigger.

Biggest concern I have is power. I've heard ideas on actually modding yoru ps, to buy9ing something extra like that Jinco ps I linked to earlier.
