What it can do:
  • Play XBOX games (duh)
  • Region free multi format DVD player (no dongle necessary).
  • Play all kinds of media files using XBMC. Ex: DivX, MP3, ASF, OGM, SVCD, etc. full list of supported format here
  • It can play the files off a shared network drive. So you don't need to transfer it into the XBOX first to watch/listen.
  • Play classic arcade games like pacman or 1942 using MAME or KawaX (NeoGeo)
  • Emulators for NES, SNES, NES64, Amiga, Gameboy, DOS and many more.

  • Backup your XBOX games into the HD to preserve the disc & faster load time.

Xbox Media Center (XBMC) - can play .avi, mp3, divx formats of sorts. Can even watch TV/video streams. - this is by far the coolest app for xbox. I can see my Replaytv on the network and watch shows stored there! (I think you can watch Tivo too, don't have it, never tried it).
DVD-X - region free DVD player.
Basically, it can Play Region Free DVDs..Almost all forms of Media Files, From MP3-MPG-AVI-OGM etc etc..
Various file exploring and backup tools.
Can Easily Connect to your PC by Means of FTP to drag and drop MP3s and other files on to your HDD.
It can also access your PC's shared folders, so no need to transfer those MP3s on your PC, just share it.

you should mention what dvd this one has as samsung play cdr and dvd-r but not many read dvd+R and tompson(RCA), phillips dont read cd-r and dvd-R. Just a tip as its the biggest problem for some users.

and a great price for xbox,mod,120gig drive.

this is a SAMSUNG drive (cost almost $100 alone on ebay).. which works great with CD-R and DVD-R. It doesn't like DVD+R, but if you use the bitsetting to make it DVDROM, it would work. I just use DVD-R since it's usually cheaper than DVD+R anyways.
