Red, Hammer: Good to see you guys again.

As far as the machine goes, I'm probably willing to spend around $500-$1,200 for it(give or take). It will be used primarily as a trading machine and I no longer need the heavy duty workstation I requested a couple weeks ago.

I work nights now, and day trade from 9am to 4pm so the system needs to be moderately fast, reliable, and tough. It will store everything financial in my life hence the huge importance of reliability.

I prefer the machine consisted of used parts, to bring the price down a bit, but im negotiable. Below are the specs id really like. However, for $500-$1,200, these specs may be unrealistic. I'll let you make the call.

P.S. No Celerons/Durons/or overclocked CPU's. The CPU(s) and HD will be running some heavy duty market applications, PC Anywhere, Dual monitors, and a large and growing database. The aforementioned CPUs wont cut it.

CPU: Dual or single P3. 600Mhz+ single/ 350Mhz dual
MB: Surprise me w/something reliable
RAM: 256MB 1 or 2 DIMMS. ECC/Cas2
HD: SCSI(UW/U2W/U160)HD. Atleast 9GB. Max 18GB
CD-R(W): SCSI Must be reliable. Fast a bonus
Video card: Matrox G400/450 or other Dual VGA card(32mb)
Sound: SB Live Value or equivalent
NIC: 3com 3905x
SCSI Controller: Adaptec
Case: something low profile.
CD-ROM: if the CD-R is slow, need a fast CD-ROM

If you have any available, I'm looking for 2x19in or 21in monitors.

Let me know.

Hate to be a buttinski, but the SCSI-RAID controller I have up for trade for a P3-800 is a server-class unit with all the performance (64 MB buffer I think) reliability and fault tolerance that implies. Besides, my neighbor (who has it for trade) is being a pest :)

Can't wait to see what you guys come up with,

Bill

To bad I didn't know of this last week, I had SCSI controllers and SCSI Hard drives to spare (even a Black Plextor SCSI 8X20 burner). Unfortunatly I sold them all to fund building some Tbird systems that seem to be in big demand. I think Tom has a lot of these parts at his disposal so I'm going to pass.
