limited edition 727-horsepower Mustangs

Ford to release limited edition 727-horsepower Mustangs
Ford Motor Co. will release an extremely limited number of special-edition Mustang GTs that get up to 727 horsepower — 20 more than Dodge’s popular Hellcat Charger and Challenger sports cars.

The Dearborn automaker partnered with NASCAR legend Richard Petty to create three Mustang GT King Edition pony cars. Only 300 — 243 King models, 43 King Premier models and 14 King Premier convertibles — will be built. The Mustangs will range from $67,495 to $90,495 and customers can now order them through their local Ford dealerships.

“I’ve always liked the look of the Mustang, and the 2016 model gives us a great base car to work with,” Petty said in a statement. “These new King edition Mustangs are pretty much the way I’d build my own. They are great fun to drive, and have a signature single exhaust.”
The modified Mustangs use a factory GT as a base model. Petty’s speed shop, Petty’s Garage, added a supercharger to add 235 horsepower to the stock 435-horsepower 5-liter V8. Options for all three editions include different wheel bushings, a coil-over racing suspension and a supercharger upgrade that results in the 727-horsepower total.

Other modifications include a custome engine calibration, a cold-air intake for better breathing and a MagnaFlow exhaust.

The cars also include custom wheels, rear diffusers, shift knob, sill plates, floor mats, embroidered head restraints and rear spoilers. Every model will also be signed by Richard Petty.

The King Premier edition includes different wheels, a brake upgrade kit, a custom leather trimmed interior and a special stripe package

wonder what the engines cid will be on these cars . my guess it still be just a 302 small block .
you have to still try and keep the MPG semi good. to keep the liberals in Washington happy with your total fleets MPG.

Yes, it's still the 302. 5.0 Coyote platform I believe.. It will be interesting to see how it really compares to the Hellcat. One thing to note, the Hellcat's motor is a completely NEW design. They didn't just take a 6.4L (392) and toss a blower on it and say hey, look what we did! They completely redesigned the engine in order to make sure that it was built for the boost they were throwing at it and that it wasn't going to puke after a few runs at the track. I'm not saying that the Mustang will do that. But if you read the article, they didn't do anything to the motor except for slapping on a blower. Not as impressive a feat in my book. Also, if you look at a lot of stock dynos for the Hellcat, you'll see they average about 630hp at the wheels.. If you do the conversion to the crankshaft (which are the numbers the manufacturers user) that translates to 756hp... So the Hellcat's numbers are very conservative. If Ford isn't conservative with their numbers they are gonna be hard pressed to beat a Hellcat. But, these special editions will sell just as fast as Hellcats. Sad part, is the lowest priced King edition is still more expensive than the lowest priced Hellcat..

Meh, I still love my '14 5.0. I just don't like the rear of the new ones. That's why I made sure to grab a '14 as that was the last one before the change. Speaking of which, I need to wash her.

EGo that was what I'm thinking . for the money I'd buy a stock 302 mustang -have the trans beefed add extra body supports bracing, totally rebuild the stock motor port it - reprogram the computer . beef the rear axle and brake system . for maybe $5000 - $10,000 grand more then a normal mustang gt . and have a real power house that will whip some ASS.

Unless you really love the Mustang, you may as well get a Hellcat for that money. I don't know how they are going to get that much horsepower to hook up in a Mustang. While I haven't driven the new generation, I remember them being very light in the rear. To be honest, if I'm going to spend that much money on a car, I'd be leaning more towards a Porsche. Having all of that horsepower is useless unless you can get it to the ground.

Racing programs are a GREAT ideal... get them to spend time and money building fast cars. The problem with that is there are hardly any tracks left to legal race on because the tracks that have been around for 50 years get housing put up around them then the people complain about the noise and it gets shut down.

the new body style looks like a beefed up Hyundai tiburon IMO....butt ass ugly.

And no doubt....600+ hp is not cheap at all...well unless you squeeze the tar outta it.
