happy new year to us, ~ NOT.

Post by darcy »

hubby went out 2 hours ago; car is parked in front of our bldg.
first thing he notices, is that passenger side view mirror is gone [ found it in the street ]. figures he can duct tape it for time being, then looked down the side of the car, and apparently we were side-swiped. it's undriveable. most of the damage is towards the rear side, along w/the tire and all that goes along that line. we need this expense like a hole in the head; no clue how he'll get to his 2nd job on the weekends.
happy new year to us, not. what a s*ck.

thanks, FP and John,,,
no,, no rental from insurance.

not much could be done yesterday afternoon [ new year's day ], but by 10 this morn, the tow truck came to take it to a body shop that works w/our insurance, so at least it's off the street. car will be inspected on Tuesday, and then we'll know if it's a total loss and if we have to pull money out of the air to get another car.

hubby even went down to our local precinct on the corner last night, hoping they'd have it on their camera/s, but that was a no-go, too; ~ their tapes are not DVR-ed (!).

the whole thing is just a mess.

Sorry to hear about your car Darcy. Probably some heavily intoxicated driver was the culprit.
Hope you can find alternative transportation until it's fixed and hopefully it doesn't cost you $$ to fix it.

cheers, Evil and Losbot,,, we should know something by Tuesday.

and Evil, ~ that's our reckoning, ~ that is was an intoxicated driver; the car in front of us & the one parked directly behind us were fine.

Wow, just saw that today (where have I been)! Sorry to hear that - it really sucks, because now you have to waste time to get it fixed. The moron that did it simply walks away, or in this case, drove away. Bummer no video was available.

thanks, all, ~ 'tis appreciated, but the news is not good.

adjustor called this afternoon [ weren't expecting him to check out the car 'til tomorrow ], and he told me the car is a total loss, ~ in excess of $5K damage, which they won't pay to fix as is above value of our car at this point. { which really p*sses me off, 'cause even though our car is old, the inner workings have always been fastidiously maintained }.

[ i didn't ask for more details, ~ i asked him call hubby @ work to give him more specifics ].

since we're going to have to sink $$$ into a vehicle, it's better put to getting a used car than paying $5k+ to repair this one,,,

we still can't believe this crap had to happen to us.

Don't know what you're replacing, but you might think about one of those "certified" used cars from various dealers. You pay somewhat of a premium, but you can get a bumper to bumper warranty for 3+ years. I helped my daughter by a 2010 chevy malibu last year like that. I gave her $6k and she ended up with a $200 payment for 3 years and full warranty. There is also still a lot of 0% financing out there on cars. Did that for the wife's toyota 2 years ago. Anyway you cut it, it's still a pain. Good luck!
