I'm amazed that they still use front engine dragsters as they're scary as S***. When I had mine (an early 60s vintage), just the thought of engine issues was nerve racking.

The other guy in that vid had probs too as his chutes deployed on take off.

In one of the races I went to in the 70's, a top fuel dragster at the line, blew his motor, with the blower going straight up at a slight angle into a restaurant and hit a boy who was eating. The scary part of watching these races is being at the finish line. There is no way in hell you would have time to even move, let alone saying shit...and your dead.

so what blew up on that? they said the engine was already ready to go for another race in a different body. is this somewhat common, as it's the second time for him or does he just have mechanics that hate him?

Backfired up into the supercharger. Blew it off the engine, But now they have ALL kinds of safety stuff to prevent it from leaving the engine. There is armor around the trans to keep it contained if it blows up.
