it's not something im interested in for my car/cars (unless it was built into my dash )and im sure i get a ticket for it in michigan for reason stated above it.

Considering the size of some of the GPS's I've seen, this is nothing.

probably ticket material because of the placement. Dash mount should be ok.

In my 40 yrs of driving, I've never once needed a device like that. Defensive driving is key to avoiding accidents caused by other people.
I can't imagine being in an accident caused by another driver where the evidence in itself isn't proof of who was at fault really.

Can't even see it being an obstructed view. I drive around with a 4" wide clipboard suctioned cupped in the same location, that always has a 8 1/2 x 11" sheet of paper (folded in half the long way) clipped to it with my service call schedule on it. It's more of an obstruction than that.

That device is still pretty cheap compared to a go-pro unit.

My friend dropped 300+ on his gopro for his buggy. And I have to say it is money well spent. I don't know what kind of voodoo goes on inside that camera but it takes amazing video. Things that are bumpy don't appear to be as bad on the camera unless you can see suspension moving. Whatever they have for anti shake is amazing. That and it can film at 60FPS.

No different then a handicap tag hanging from the rearview mirror and driving around.

Why would anyone place anything on their windshield. Anything (GPS, Notepad, Radar detector...) is an obstruction of view if it is in the windshield... but that is my opinion. ... Keep your eyes on the road not your notepad or GPS.

agreed...and drivers' ed always said to never put anything on the windshield or dash, as that just becomes a nice big projectile to crush your face in an accident.

i had an accident where no witnesses stopped (even though heavy traffic) and it ended up being a he-said...he-said. it was the other guy's fault for going through a red light, but he insisted that i was the one going through a red light. of course, right after the accident, he begged me to not call the police...

if i had a video of the incident, it would have settled it easily.

Yeah I've been tempted to get a go-pro just for that reason. I drive 30 miles to work and another 30 miles back to home. Most every day, I see idiots on the road. Just like Evil mentioned, defensive driving is a must in this current environment with so many idiots on the road. What do I see the most? People not paying attention to their surroundings, and distracted by playing movies, using the phone, and talking too much with a passenger.

...not to mention the clueless drivers in all of the new roundabouts going up everywhere. i've even had people driving the WRONG WAY in them come at me.

i'll probably have a GoPro2 in a month or two...i'd like to have that for entertainment purposes (and legal reasons as a bonus). i've honestly been thinking about making a "bad driver documentary".

I'm sure there are times when one might come in handy but so far to me, it'd be one more gadget in my car(s) and will it be on and working that one day, someday when I actually need it?

What I'm seeing now is many people making "bad driver documentary's" on You-Tube and linking them to various forums for amusement.

Sure, I see many bozo moves when I wish I was a cop and be able to do something about it but.......

I wouldnt consider this a obstruction. Think about the idiots that hang a CD from their rear view mirror. Nothing like a twirling disc reflecting sunlight into your face when driving...or the fuzzy dice? Ive seen people with a bazzilion air freshers hanging from their mirror.
