not called to find out yet what it going cost me. i need to get a quart for my car.

I asked my nephew who deals in buying paint for GM at the factory level.
He said GM pays about $35 gallon for most car or less but that is also in mass volume for new cars.
also a friend who happen to (stumble) -{key word stumble) on . A gallon of special auto paint for a custom bike he working on. that he said the black paint with diamond dust in it that he has sells (cost about ) $3500.00 per gallon retail.
im sure im not going to like hearing what the paint store going to tell me.
im use to paying around $35-$40 gallon for house paint. never thought car paint was that costly till now.
I'll find out in a couple of days. i need red for my 2002 saturn vie . not anything i want to deal with ordering online. my luck i get it and it be old or the wrong tint when it arrive.

Are you going to try painting it yourself? I wouldn't even remotely consider trying that.
Red is more costly than other colors but a yr ago I had a body shop repaint my Red '95 Volvo 855T wagon (clearcoat was gone and paint was oxidizing) and that cost me $1,700. Normally a body shop would charge about $3K to do that.

I know you said you don't want to deal with it online, but you will probably end up saving a lot of money over going to the dealer to ask for a quart of paint for a color they're probably no longer using. I'm looking for the site I found to buy paint for my car when I was going to paint some pieces I bought. My aunt and uncle own a body shop, so I just went to them and got the family discount. heh.. When I find it, I'll post it. Another thing to note, after 10 years no matter where you get the paint from, it will most likely not match the rest of the car because of the years of ware.

Ok,
http://www.automotivetouchup.com/choose ... &model=Vue
Look inside your door and figure out what your paint code is.. Then you can see what it's going to cost, looks like close to $80 for a quart on most of the colors..

I painted a few cars using tcpglobal paint:
http://www.tcpglobal.com/RestorationShop/
Helpful folks over there, and the prices are very good. Paint has sprayed very well, as well as much more expensive DuPont and PPG I have used in the past. The tcpglobal is much cheaper to buy. Durability is good too (oldest job is 5 years and still looks new).
That said, I would not buy paint online to do touch up work unless you are not concerned about an exact color match (if you want an exact match, find a really good body shop). The nice thing about this paint is it is cheap enough to spray the entire car. I'm guessing you are looking at about $90 for paint/thinner/hardener for a quart of paint. Add about $100 if you want a gallon of paint. That is if you want the factory color. If you are willing to spray your whole car with one of their stock ready mixed colors it is less than $100 for a gallon -and that includes everything. Hard to beat price!
And a bit of a tip... spraying is pretty easy to get a hang of with a little practice if you have good equipment. You will spend 95% of your time prepping the car for paint. Your paint job will only be as good as your prep work. If you just want to do touch up, forget about getting an exact match on a car that is a few years old by yourself. That is hard enough even for a good body shop with expensive color matching equipment. Most of the time the color matching equipment still puts out a mix that is off. A good shop will work off of that and continue to mix by hand until it is right. It is very hard to find a good shop like that and expect to pay $$$$$.

I have a friend doing the job - he a model builder and custom car fabricator.
I get to buy the supplys he supplys the labor. I do have him getting the clear coat as he wants a better grade then normally they sell in small units (pint or quart size .so well split on that cost. i need to do a bit more talking to him I may just get him to buy all the paint. ya I will be helping prep the car.there rock chips and very small amount of rust starting to show up around the tail gate were the edge is .this is why im jumping on getting it done and done right now for the most part the car is clean. seeing the car is mostly plastic body panels. the road salts used on michigan roads has not got to it.
