My first that I owned was a Kraco cassette player with the knobs. It was my cousin's & I used a CD to cassette adapter in that thing for years before I could afford a car unit.

The first car I bought when 19 was a '62 Volvo P1800 and it had an AM radio in it which had to go. So, its replacement was an in dash AM/FM Cassette radio. I never owned an 8 Track, always hated those things as they were non-recordable, huge, and the tracks just changed in the middle of a tune.

My dad actually had an 8-Track recorder. It was an Realistic TR-801 and I think it still works.

They were still terrible though. We had to put a matchbook under some of the ones we played in the car so they wouldn't double track. I got my first car in '92 and it was an '86 Mustang 2.3L. The radio was a factory AM/FM Cassette with factory amp. It was actually nice but I put a Pioneer CD player in it 2 years later. It developed issues and I ended up taking it back to SUN TV twice before the manager gave me store credit and I got a JVC CD player. It was probably the best CD car stereo I'd ever owned. I also changed out all the factory speakers and wiring as the factory amp wasn't compatible with either CD player.

Those dang 8tracks couldn't do anything right. But yup I had a reciever 8track recorder combo and made my own and tuned the azmith to mine and not store bought. Had a shotgun amp a seperate tuner for the 8track and an anntenna booster. All sitting on the tranny hump in my 71 Impala. Pretty high pile! The original radio? I have no clue..
