weard law i just read - while reading about GPS systems
What’s the difference between installed and portable GPS systems?
Portables, however, are catching up and can be used in different vehicles, including rental cars. Units usually are easily mounted on the windshield or dash. (California and Minnesota laws prohibit using suction windshield mounts while driving.)

I thought the People's Republic of California recently changed the law
to allow GPS devices. The point of these laws is supposed to keep drivers from placing objects in their line of site. However, it's perfectly legal in said states to mount them on the dash. Go figure.
Here's a complete list by state:

Most of the laws are rather vague and could be interpreted by whatever mood the officer that pulled you over is in.

If you work it out right, you can get a GPS, Radar Detector, & a phone on your windshield. Then drive around for spite.

mmm i thought i was the only one. i have the radar detector right next to the gps mount so it looks like the same thing. gps is legal here radar detectors are not. so if i get pulled over maybe i can ditch the detector under the seat b4 the cop gets out of the car and sees it.

I've stopped using my radar detector, a V1 because after driving several long trips and locally, it became obvious that cops are aiming something at my cars yet the (formally trustworthy) V1 doesn't respond anymore thus it's now obsolete IMO. I've asked cops what they're using and they laugh about my V1s demise

Ah well, I usually see them anyways.

Probably using Laser Detectors instead of Radar Detectors.. If you see the cop "aiming" something like a gun, it's a laser.. Maybe Nitro can give us more info?

It's called a pulse lazer from what I've been told. My V1 USE to pick up the older type lazer device(s) for years until the last year or two.
My V1s last trip was a 900 mile drive back from NY when I picked up my newest used car and thought I'd give it one last try. I saw many cops aiming those things at me yet the V1 didn't go off once.
I went to Valentines websight and they say I've got the latest, greatest too. They say the only possible upgrade (for $75) is for a type of lazer only used in Europe.
I've googled the topic too and apparently there are no new lazer detecting devices out there yet.

I had a detector (BEL) that was great & then one day just didn't detect anything anymore (even in the places that I knew would always false alarm). You may have Valentine check it out.
