man did ford eat it on these to brands. to the toon of 2.9 millions dollars. was sold at a bargain price of 2.3 million for both auto companys. sure glad im not a ford stock holder i be crying.

Ford Motor Co.is selling its storied Jaguar and Land Rover brands to India's Tata Motors Ltd.in a deal that will net the U.S. automaker $1.7 billion - roughly a third of the price it paid for the two luxury brands.

The deal announced Wednesday will expand the Indian carmaker's reach around the globe and give Jaguar and Land Rover badly needed capital to update and expand their product lines.

The agreement had been in the works for months as cash-strapped Ford sought money to fund its turnaround plan.

Tata will pay $2.3 billion for the British brands, but Ford will pay about $600 million into the Jaguar-Land Rover pension fund when the deal closes, Tata's statement said.

i have been a fan of these two brands . land Rover were to bland looking .and the jaguar i always heard had really bad wiring . but they did have a power house under the hood in some models !
glad im not a ford stock holder i be pissed seeing another 2.9 billion loss!

Actually, this will be the best thing for Ford in the long run. While many in the US like these brands, I see few of them on the road. Look for Mercury to be next on the chopping block. US car companies are realizing that they have too many rebadged cars. Dropping Mercury would leave Ford with:

Ford
Mazda
Lincoln
Volvo

The next step for Ford, in my opinion, is to consolidate dealers.

Getting rid of Merc would be a good idea. Volvo's also up for sale too, has been for a while now.

You're right. For has it's Luxury badge, Lincoln, Volvo is unnecessary. For the next few years, all car companies, not just the Big 3, will have to trim their product lines for the US market. Not too many are buying new cars right now.
