Car Audio Question

Post by eGoCeNTRoNiX »

Hey Guys,

I know a little bit about cars and car audio, so this is sort of just a reassurance question. Looking at getting some new speakers for my g/f's 2000 Nissan Altima, and the only type I can get are the rounds. I'm not crazy about them. The last time I saw rounds in a car they were a set of Kenwoods (all 4 speakers) and they were 5.25" speakers and had NO kick what so ever. We put the same stereo in my car and the sound was 100X better on my Clarion speakers, 3x5 and 6x9s.. So my question is, can anybody recommend a good set of rounds? Wanting to spend under $100 for all 4..

Thanks!

Well.. :) I got my Clarion's for $150 shipped for all 4. Got them through http://www.etronics.com And the sound is great IMHO I just want my g/f's car to sound better than stock.. she'll be using the stock Head unit, so if you can refer me some in that higher price range I'll see what I can find on their site.

I know my Clarion's should have cost closer to $300 I guess I just got lucky. :)

#1 problem.. doing just the speakes should improove it a little.. but the head unint will make a big differance... I had stock speakers in my can and had a cheap 30 dollar deck and when i put a good deck in the quality was insane.. then i put new speakers in and for a week it seemd like i stole the car, cause i know my car didnt have that nice of a stereo in it.

I know this is old, and I know I haven't posted in almost a year - but, I had to offer some advice. :D

My friend, who happens to be a HUGE audiophile just installed some new 6x9's in the back of his Grandam. He is a believer in Pheonix Gold products. I believe he has one of their 1000w PG Xeon Amps to power his Diamond Audio 12" sub - I don't know the specs. But, his system puts out over 130-140 SPL - he won second in a local audio competition.

He bought some Pheonix Gold Tantrum-X's - I think he spent $100 for the pair - they sound AMAZING! CRYSTAL CLEAR! The sounds his car brings out brings tears to my eyes - literally. :p hehe

We replaced some Alpine speakers in the back - TONS BETTER. He bought coaxials - but he wired some seperately purchased Pheonix Gold crossovers to them to help seperate the tweeter and woofer frequencies even better!

So - yea, I think that's it. if you have any other questions, let me know! :)

What the hell does it need to be that loud for? most concerts barely hit 125-130... and to have that much in a car? I guess if you want to go deaf its fine... but i dont have much room to talk with how loud my car is.

Yea, that's his hobby.

It's more loud then I'd ever want my car to be, but it's still really fun to see people's reactions as we drive down a street. :D

That and most cars have trouble hitting 110db at non bass frequencies.... heck mine has a hard time and I have a fairly high end system... Illusion Audio 6" in the doors, Morel 1" tweets in the kicks, Audiocontrol 4xs active crossover, MTX 4244 amp powering the fronts.

As for bass (IE: below 100hz), it's much less damaging to your ears than higher frequencies, human ears are naturally less sensitive to them, and the car's cabin produces a lot of bass gain, so it's easier to go loud with bass frequencies.

I know this. I made a sub out of a 4" speaker and about 30' of PVC pipe. It was good and loud.

the other thinkg about the "comp cars" is some of them cant even be drivin or arent street legal... whats to stop me from making a steel box with casters on it and calling it a car? That and the rules are gay. You can only use "normal" spearkes. no servo drivin stuff.. no micro elplosives.. it has to be off the shelf items (see cost money) and its so closed ended. Its just like every thing else... the guy wiht the most money wins.
