Performance Modifications......

I want to do something to my vehicle....
One rule, performance comes before looks (but that doesnt mean it can be fugly!)
I have searched...but so far I havent really found many performance mods that can be done. Besides a intake replacement and exguast, theres not much I have found. Maybe im not looking hardenough, or not searching under the correct words
My vehicle I want to work on is a 96' Chevy Blazer, 4.3L Vortec v-6 (i think its a vortec.....let me check)
my goal is to get more power out of it, and then do body modifications)
The one thing I absolutly have to get even though its a body mod, is a lighted billet for the front. Those are cool at night
sorry if this reads like im jumping all over the place....just got too many ideas but dont know where to look

Your gonna find that most SUV's there aren't really al ot of performance mods you can do to them... Nature of the beast i guess cause most cars you can find parts for everywhere... Why do you want more power out of a v6 anyways. It should have more than enough to accelerate fast and haul ass when needed. If ya want more acceleration change out the ring and pinion gears to a lower ratio. But you'll also run a higher rpm and use more fuel as well. Check out summitracing.com i think. If anyone has stuff they should. I'm sure you can find chips and Vortech superchargers for it.

I almost shit my pants when I saw a Salen Explorer

Think about that for a second.... and then get back to me... how many Saleen cars do you see. Most of their cars are expensive as hell. He's looking for mods he can do himself more than likely. I don't quiet think he can afford to send his Blazer to Saleen so they can work it over. With the right amount of money you can get anything done. Oh and if that Explorer was a Eddie Bauer edition with a 302 V8... I'd guarantee there's a shitload of performance parts for it. Given the fact that the 289302 was in the Mustang for damn near 30 years

I never said you can't get performance parts for SUV's. I said there's not really a lot out there for them. Think about the market for SUV's. Its soccer mom's. Do they really need a 400 hp Turbo/Supercharged V6 under the hood? There isn't a real big market for it so there's not going to be a lot. Its not like the Honda market where every teenager owns one and is upgrading it left and right.

no no no, my point is I felt that the Salen was pointless, a waste ( On an Exploer )

thats what irritates me to no end, the lack of performance parts for suvs and such..
I am VERY tempted to buy a car just so I can work on it
only problem....no room for another car in the driveway, cant really afford the money on the insurance for another car

I hear ya... Check out the july or August issue of Car and Driver... I thought the 700 Hp Twin Turbo Linglefelter Escalade was rather pointless... who needs an 11 second 1/4 mile full size SUV lol

and a price tag of like 140,000 dollars.

you should just try to fit an LT1 in that thing... it is a blazer!

No offense but IMHO, one buys an SUV to BE an SUV and if one wants performance, one buys a performance car. Sure, with enough $$$ anything's possible but for most people who don't want to throw rediculous money away, one's better off buying a car that has potential to begin with (if not already there).
Just my $.02 on it.
......OR, save up for that new 450 HP turbo Porsche SUV

you could get one of them bolt on crintrifugal super chargers... but youd have to loose the AC pump to make room for it.

The very best and first thing you should do is get a
K&N Air Filter for it, you will notice a BIG difference after just that. Second I would at least modify the exaust system to a free flowing system that would include headers for your 4.3 that are made with the A.I.R. fittings, dual performance catalytic converters and Flow Master mufflers. The most you could really do (
without really doing a complete engine rebuild to bore and stroke your V-6) is improve air flow through your engine and these suggestions will do just that. If that's not enough then by all means pull the engine and stroke it and bore it out, install a bigger cam, mod the heads and put a larger throttle plate in it. Chevy Performance makes some really good performance parts for the V-6's.
http://www.gmgoodwrench.com/gmgoodwrenc ... s/home.jsp , click on "Engine Parts" and do your search from there.
Good luck and have fun
