Buying a new truck

Post by Invisible Evil »

Give me some advice guys..
im Looking at either a Dodge Ram 1500, or a Chevy Silverado 1500 so far, but if you have any other advice Id like to hear it.

I have had a Dodge Dakota for ever and it has never give me any problems, but alas it has like 230 + k on it, and its just wearing down.

Myself i'd take a Ford F150 over a chevy and a chevy over a Dodge... those dodge trucks are about the biggest POS... know to many people who have or have had them and had nothing but problems... especially with the heavy duty's... The Dakota's have always been decent trucks but those Ram's are about the biggest waste of metal there ever was :D

All of them have their lemon's... Dodge has never been known for their quality though and it seems like it hasn't changed either. I had a 97 F150 and never had a bit of trouble with it. Only trouble i had was making the damn payments after i got laid off lol I'm not a Chevy fan at all but i would buy one before i would buy a newer Dodge.

But, I do drive a 98' F150 Lariat Extended cab w/186k on it and it runs like a champ! Not a single problem with it to date (other than the damn seatbelts wanting to "lock" lol). Though, if it was my choice, I'd probably get a import truck of some kind simply because I'm tired of all the trouble I've had from american cars that are "new".. eGo

I've had a 95 f150 ext cab shortbed for a couple of years without any probs - now has about 165k on it - had to replace the front brakes frequently when we were towing horses a lot, but i suspect that's the norm

I had an 88 f250 that ran file for a whine, but then just had one problem after another

never had a dodge or a chevy truck.

I currently drive a 91 explorer with 110k and i like it more than the truck - you can still do truck stuff but it's a little more civilized :)

I've seen a couple of those dodge suvs that look pretty sharp

actually I saw a new one out on the lot this past thursday =) mebbe they pulled some strings to get it out early?? friggin awesome tho. My buddy would kill me for sayin this, but I'm with Pred. Dodges are mainly for show, they just won't last like a ford or chevy will.

ya i'm really digging the new F150's... They don't look as girlie as the 97-03's look. I had a 97 and loved it... but they just didn't look tough unless you did some mods to it. The 04's are lookin' badass though :D

Ubersexy... :D I'm waiting on the Heavy Duty Tonka Truck... now that thing is BADASS! :D I really like the upscale interior on the 04's... It has a retro look going on that just flows with the truck...

No matter what you buy... do yourself a big favor. If its a 4x4 get one with an actual stick in it for engaging the 4 wheel drive. All of this electric push button crap is a joke. 2 guys at work have 2001 F-350's with powerstrokes and 4x4's... both of them have had trouble with that POS electronic 4 wheel drive system on their trucks. When i bought my 97 i made sure it didn't have it. The electric is more common as most people are idiots with 4 wheel drive. When i need to be in 4 wheel drive i want to know that i'm in 4 wheel drive and with the stick... you'll know your in.
