this is a first in my owning a car .
had to buy a replacement gas cap for my wifes 2008 saturn vue.
the cap would go on the filler tube. you twist it to lock it into place . it click like it was locking in place. but you could keep spinning it and not form a tight seal. so there be a dash light go on and a code in the systems computer. I went and bought a new aftermarket from the local autozone for $14.00 im sure after looking at the old cap. a new one from GM be around $25. sounds like a weard bitch but after seeing how its design they sure are cheaply made all plastic . call me old school but what happen to the good old metal ones made to out last the car. .

Ever seen what happens to a metal gas can on a lawn mower? Thats why they went plastic. Any humidity and condensation travels up the filler neck and collects. Thats why a lot of the filler necks and caps are plastic now. Plus, cheaper to make. I do agree they are stupid complicated now. A simple pressure release valve is all thats needed and that can be incorporated into the filler neck.
