What is funny, that car would probably pass a safety inspection in most places!

Look through the car to the other side, the right side rotor looks fine what we can see in picture. Most places I have taken cars for a safety inspection in many states over the years normally pull the right rear wheel and front left.
OK, right rear looks fine, it passes LOL
They would have never looked at left rear

Here in WI, there are NO safety inspections so anything goes. I'm quite sure that a large percentage of accidents here are caused by mechanical failure and in winter, driving on balding tires which I see every year.

I've actually worked on a car that was near this point. The caliper got jammed & the guy drove it for months like that. When he asked me to check it out, there was about 1/8" left.

I've seen where the pad wore through, piston wore through one side of the rotor and wheel jammed because the piston was stuck in the rotors cooling fins.
All I can think is that the owners must drive with the tunes really cranking to not notice that much noise.
