I am going to take a few trips over the next week or two and I was wondering if I could take a Movie DVd and copy it to my hard drive and then watch the movie from my hard drive and leave the DVD at home. I have the hard drive space and I figureded I could use the DVD software to watch the movie from the HD. Can this be done in a simple fashion?
Thanks

Yes, you will need a decryption progam such as Clad DeCSS or Smart Ripper found at
http://www.Doom9.net . All you should need is the VOB files that pertain to the movie (they should be sequenced, and Clad can identify them automatically). Older versions of PowerDVD will require that you put the files into a folder called "VIDEO_TS" for them to play properly. I don't know about issues with other players concerning playback from HD. You will want to load the VOB's into the playlist for PowerDVD if that is the software you use. I'm not sure of the legality of this.
