Katy Perry

Ok, I'm an old fart (age 54) and I admit that while I knew who Katy Perry was, her music didn't particularly interest me before the Super Bowl halftime show. I'd heard some of her music (mostly the songs with hip-hop featured artists, and at my gym since the owner usually has a an XM-Radio hip-hop channel on for background).
I actually do like some hip-hop music, so the fact that Perry has hip-hop artists featured in her singles, while her music isn't strictly hip-hop, intrigued me. Yes, I listen to Kanye West. I don't like all of his music, but I have to tell you that his single "Stronger" was my anthem during the long recuperation period after my falling accident. That's still in my favorites playlist on my iPod (explicit lyrics version of course) and in the mornings I have that blasting in the car with the sunroof open.
The wife and I watched the halftime show after I downloaded it (not a football fan, so didn't watch the game) and Perry's performance just blew us away. So I downloaded a bunch of her videos, starting with some of the songs she did during halftime (Roar, Dark Horse, California Gurls, Firework) and then grabbed some others.
Wife and I were both pleasantly surprised that almost all her videos are either uplifting or funny, generally amazingly well produced - sometimes visual extraveganzas (like Dark Horse in particular), and entertaining as hell. Wife had me load them up in her music video folder for the Media Center TVs.
I must say I am smitten with her. She's charmingly pretty, without being erotically grungy. She has absolutely stunning eyes, and delightful girl next-door looks. I love the fact that she doesn't take herself TOO seriously (the video for "Last Friday Night" with her dressed up as a nerd is just hilariously funny). I also appreciate that she hasn't tainted that lovely skin of hers with an excessive number of tattoos as that would be a shame - just a couple of small nondescript ones.
I would assume everyone here has, by now, seen the halftime show, but if you haven't it's well worth downloading. Awesome spectacle. Nice to see the 3D floor projection done on that large a scale. They've been doing that the past two seasons on Dancing with the Stars.
As a former stagehand I also really admired how the whole thing was pulled off. The robot tiger was very well done. Yeah you could see the guys in black controlling it on occasion, but it was incredibly well done and I didn't expect it to be able to rear up. I'm also impressed that they safely harnessed her into the flying rig at the end AND pulled off a costume change in a VERY short amount of time. Trust me, you have to have a LOT of confidence in your staging people to trust them with a very fast flying rig setup like that. You don't want someone missing a D-ring. Doesn't matter that she was standing on a small platform, if that flying harness wasn't holding her securely when she started flying around.
