Frost vs Nixon

Post by FlyingPenguin »

I wasn't expecting this to be as good as it was. You have to understand that at that time, David Frost was a nobody in the US. He had tried to do a talk show in the US and it bombed, so he went to Australia where he had a moderately successful show.

He wasn't considered an intellectual in the same league as Nixon, and certainly not a journalist, so none of the networks wanted to buy the rights to the interview. He wound up financing it out of his own pocket (to the tune of $20 million) and loans and wound up syndicating it. Turned out to be a major money maker for him in the end, and bolstered his career.

Nixon was hoping to improve his image and initially took control of the interviews, but Frost took him to task over watergate and actually got Nixon to admit to wrong doing.

Frank Langella was outstanding as Nixon.
