DOOM the movie

I went into this movie (watched it at home) thinking it was going to be a POS, but I came out of with with an OK, or simply mindless entertainment.

My biggest compliant with the movie is it did not follow the original game - Doom was about an aerospace agency experimenting with dimensional gateways and thus opening a portal to Hell, spilling demons out that soon started warring with mankind. Instead, we have a zombie movie like all the other ones that Hollywood has dumped in our laps.

They included 4 of the demons from the Doom games: the Zombie, the Imp, the Pinky, and the Baron or Hell Knight. You see more of the Zombies than any other, but, the Imps and Barons? They don't shoot fireballs anymore?. The Barons use brute force, while the Imps either just scratch or attack you with their tongue to turn you into an Imp. Surely Hollywood could have done a better job and coming closer to the original game than this.

As for weapons, you see a Rocket Launcher, but it's never used. The Shotgun is used only a couple of times, but you never see a Plasma Gun or a Double-Barrel shotgun in action. The BFG is there, and used only twice in the movie. The Chainsaw was used once, but for me there was not enough killing/action like the Doom game. Most of the action was random in my opinion. There was a section of the movie that had a first person view like the original game, but it did not deliver much to suck in the viewer to pretend he's the good guy killing all the bad demons.

If you a Doom fan, then wait until it hits the rental shelves to see it. Other than that, it's not a very good movie IMHO, as there was not enough action sequences for me to consider this flick like the Doom game.

I think with a little more padding Doom3 could have been a great movie. The basic story, in my opinion, was very engaging there just wasn't anything, other than shooting monsters, built around it. A good writer could have put in some witty dialogue and it could make a decent movie. I at least hope the chain saws got to mars because of a mix up and they kept the what the hell are we supposed to do with chainsaws line. Wait please don't tell me this movie wasn't set on Mars.

Most everything I feared about this movie has been confirmed by you I doubt I'll ever see it unless its on free tv some day when absolutely nothing else is on and I'm bored as hell. I'm surprised Id let them use the Doom name for it.

I'm waiting until it's on PPV but yeah, it's too bad that they apparently never played the original game. There was once a rumor that there was to be a Duke Nukem movie years ago and that would have been far more entertaining IF it was done right and with the right guy as Duke.

Terrible movie, IMO. It started off fairly decent, with a pretty cool introduction scene, but once it went over to the Olduvai facility it just got crappy. There was absolutely no character development, far less action than I anticipated, and the overall story was horrendous - particularly the back story between Reaper and his sister, which looked as if it was just thrown in there at the last minute. Seeing the BFG in action was fairly cool, although as previously mentioned, it was used only twice, and the much-hyped FPS sequence was extremely short and not really well made - the CGI was non-too impressive and rather jerky as well.

I agree that they should have kept the original story - demons spilling out of a gateway to hell and all, and they should have kept it in on the moons of Mars as well - Phobos and Deimos (which mean 'fear' and 'terror' btw). But I guess having demons from hell with pentagrams and blood all over is too non-PC for today's age.
Also, the director is not exactly known for his quality movies - his 'best' film was probably Romeo Must Die, a pretty terrible hip-hop themed martial arts flick

It's on PPV now and I saved it on TIVO, finally watched it last night. I thought that it was entertaining, not bad really but as others have said, they should have followed the game vs changing it to how all those creatures are genetic mutants from experiments gone bad, NOT creatures from hell as it is in the game.
Weapon use and effects could have been better too.
