Once in a while I rent a DVD from Blockbuster that really sucks, like last night when I rented 'Battlefield Earth' with John Travolta. I thought that movie sucked, very un-original "B-movie" old 50's type sci-fi BS IMHO.

Dang Evil, u actually paid for that? hehe, I feel for ya. I never saw it because the stupid commercials for it turned me off. All I remember is that goofy travolta laugh. And all the critics panned it bigtime.

Gone in 20 seconds suked too. It wasn't bad but it just had no action till the ending. Unbreakabale is another I saw recently at the movies that really dissappointed me. Same director and star of the 6th Sense but in this movie both suked bad. To me anyway.

No, I think it was one of my free 'Rewards' DVDs, so all I did was waste some time, almost fell asleep.
After seeing 'Shanghigh Noon' (which I liked) I thought I'd try another older John Woo, Jackie Chan movie but to my surprise, it wasn't even in english and had the words translated and scrolling across the bottom of the screen. After a few minutes of that, out it went.

Godzilla Sucked imho. Over acting and no acting at all, except for the guy who was in leon. God zilla was cool though.
take the scene where that blond bird saw her ex on tv for the first time?? almost the same reaction the next time she sees him.

Godzilla kept me watching though.

I just might get flamed for this, but here are two movies that have gone into my Awful Movies bin:

Castaway
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Castaway could have been good provided it was shorter. As it stands, it is 2:42 of nothing. Sure, the part where he is on the island is alright, but it takes too long. Same with the ending. He finally gets home, yet the movie just keeps going and going and.....

As for CT:HD, is was subtitled, not nearly enough action, and what action there was, was ruined due to a truly horrendous overuse of wirefu. The minor effects in the Matrix were one thing, but all the flying bullcrap and running up bamboo trees and walls is ridiculous.

i agree with blade aboutthe movie - gone in 60 sucken -(and ya i ment to spell it that way ) sorry blade i tryed to tell you anyway i sent it packing 2 sec.after i watch it ! and i seen you did to!!!! blade

Wraithlord, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" did all those flying, running up bamboo trees with a purpose, back in history, kungfu fighters learn about "light weight" art and therefore they are able to fly or jump real high. If you consider it ridiculous, then they are simply as ridiculous as "Witch craft" that western history had. (Both of which might be fiction IMO, but I just accept them when I am watching a movie)

And if you consider that those actors are not acting in front of a Green wall, you will appreciate the movie much more.

i thought unbreakable was a really good movies actually. moves kinda slowthough. soldier is a pathetic excuse for a movie. battlefield earth i havent watched, heard it was a horrible shame compared to the book. i've read the book and that is a good book, read it in 2 nights basically just couldn't put it down. There was also that movie "black mask" with jet li, and i heard that was so bad it was funny

Coco, I understand that they weren't in front of a green screen, but that still doesn't make the overuse of the wirefu any more palatable to me. I am sorry, but I don't care how long you've studied Kung Fu, Ninjutsu, Whathaveyu, you cannot run up a 30 foot wall _without_ any form of hand usage (which would be climbing), you cannot make 40 foot frickin leaps from point A to point B, etc. If that is the case, perhaps if I learn "light weight art" and tell myself that I am actually 30 pounds lighter, I will have the waistline to match. To say that they could is ridiculous. And I don't believe in witchcraft in that sense either. Not to say there aren't those who do, or that maybe someone, somewhere can do some incredible stuff, however I have yet to see it.

But let me clarify a bit more: it isn't that I can't accept stunts like that in a movie. The Matrix had similar scenes as well, yet I feel it is an incredibly cool movie. Same with Romeo Must Die. The difference is, in CTHD these scenes were employed far too much, and far too exaggerated. When it becomes _that obvious_ that the actor/actress is hooked up to wires, it detracts from the suspension of disbelief that is required to enjoy special effects of that nature. There were other effects within the movie that did not bother me in the slightest, for instance: when a person jumps in the air, kicks the opponent on the left, then twists the other way and kicks the opponent on the right before landing on his feet again. This is not a problem, as it is over quickly, is not over-exaggerated, and adds a sense of "wow" to the scene.

On the other hand, the perfect example of over-exaggerated usage in CTHD is right at the end, when the girl takes a header off the mountain. She does not jump, she does not climb over the railing, hell she doesn't even bend her friggin knees to propel herself over the edge. She just spreads her arms and rises gracefully into the air, and down the mountain. Please, at least make _some_ attempt to make it semi-realistic.

This is all just my own opinion however, and I wouldn't dream of telling others they are wrong or anything like that. If you liked the flick, and the FX didn't bother, cool. Glad you liked it. For me however, it was far too much. :

OK, just saw another to add here: Fight Club. I had to see what it was all about but I had a hard time watching it through because I disliked it so badly.

Yeah I didn't like Fight Club either, it was easily predictable and to dark and dreary. Another man sinks into madness type movie, I can watch a Clockwork Orange or The Shining if I want to see that sorta movie, both are superior to Fight Club, IMHO.

I actually liked Fight Club. It was kinda boring until the end, and then suddenly you find out what is really going on with this guy. Made the movie a total surprise to me, quite enjoyable. Not that I want to see it again.

I liked both Clockwork Orange and The Shining but to me, Fight Club was too senseless IMO. I saw Clockwork Orange when it was new, in the theator (must be about '73-'74?).
