Extra scenes on DVD's.

Post by The Wraithlord »

Now I really like seeing a new DVD come out with added footage that got hacked for whatever reason. The thing about it that really bothers me is that there is hardly any option to have those scenes inserted into the movie at the place they were cut from. The only 2 movies I have seen this in were Xmen, and the always killer Aliens. Xmen was kinda goofy because the movie would pause, play the deleted scene, then resume at the previous point. Half the time the scene was shown twice as the deleted version was the inferior cut. That really takes you out of the movie. Now Aliens was the total opposite. The cut footage was replaced seamlessly within the movie itself, right where it should have been. And to top it off, the restored footage added so much to an already great flick. Like the scene where Newt's folks discover the alien ship, or the part with the autoguns, etc. All of it just added to the movie in a tangible way. Oh and Blade, if you haven't seen it on DVD yet, I highly suggest it. I know you probably have but I have to mention it.

I really wish more DVD's with added footage were handled in this way. That way, a movie that you have already seen before stills feels quite new when you watch it again.

hehe, I purchased the Aliens DVD as soon as it came out. :D I agree the way they did Aliens is the only way to include deleted scenes. The way they did with x-men makes no sense at all and it does interrupt enjoying the movie.

I think they all should have 2 versions at least. The original version and the one with deleted scenes and/or directors cut. Why some even bother having a version with the directors commentary is beyond me. I tried to watch a few of those but it was just too annoying. But maybe a few do like that.

My "Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition" DVD has an option to show the deleted scenes during the movie and it's flawless, it adds like an extra 1/2 hour to it! Definately a very cool thing for a movie you love to watch...

I agree the T2 extra scenes were inserted rather well and added to the moooovie!!!

I still need to see Blade on DVD!!!!!!!!!!!

There were a few scenes I thought should not have been taken out of Austin Powers 2, especially when Fat Bastard says,(in a scottish accent of course), "Oh great, now it smells like someone took a shite in a pine tree!"
