You know, in all reality you probably could have came. There were only about 40 people there and the only manager I saw was a pretty cool one who wasn't even working that night anyway....Originally posted by marscheese

I liked the first 3 Star wars movies and lusted after Carrie Fisher. Here's an interesting look at the original cast members.

I still think The Empire Strikes Back is the best. Except for the ending.

you lucky bastard... ...seeing it in Digital Projection would be great. The theater we played it at is so old and has pretty old equipment that it just didn't look as good as it could have. I've seen bits and pieces of it through a Digital Projector while at the Star Wars convention and even though it was on a smaller screen, it just looked 10x better.Originally posted by rogue
Well I'm seeing it today in Digital Projection (DLP), so it should be interesting. I'll tell you guys what I think.

Looked online at the times it was playing here and it's at just 2 locations. But it's playing at 4 theatres at one location, not sure about the other but they have it starting every half hour beginning at 10:30am through the last showing after midnight.
I was out and about today and was in the area of one so I stopped by about 10 minutes before the next showing. Shockingly there was no line at all so I figured what the heck and unexpectedly saw it.
After 29 previews (seemed like it anyway) it finally started. An idiot in the row behind me kept kicking the chair (I hate that) so instead of losing my temper I just moved and chilled. Started to move behind him and kick his chair, haha.
In this review Ebert mentions how poorly the image quality is unless you have a theatre with digital imaging. Mine didn't. Still wasn't bad but not nearly as clear as watching a DVD on your monitor. More on this Here
Most of the reviews I've read were negative so my expectations were not high at all like they were when I saw Spiderman. As much I previously wanted to say "it sux", it doesn't. I liked it and this is one worth owning the DVD. And I wouldn't take Episode I if it was given to me.
Good special effects and even when there was no action the background scenes were always interesting to watch and that helped the movie a lot. The love story wasn't that bad at all and there was more action than what most reviewers said. Only thing I didn't like were many of the corny lines the actors used and many times the actors showed almost no emotion, it was like they were reciting. At times I found myself ignoring the dull lines the actors were saying and just watching the background effects.
Some of the casting I didn't care for but the good did outweigh the bad by far. This is lightyears better than Episode I and it isn't nearly as all for the kiddies as the first one was. This time it does look like "another Star Wars movie", unlike with Episode I.
The characters in the first 3 Star Wars movies are far better and with a lot more emotion, miss portman helped though. And at least jar jar was toned down.
After being soured by Episode I...
out of 5
*3 1/2 is probably more like it though. The background effects I liked and that made up for the acting and the lines.

What is it that you don't like about the ending? I agree that Empire is the best of the originals.Originally posted by blade
I still think The Empire Strikes Back is the best. Except for the ending.
I really, really enjoyed Episode II but I could never compare Episode V (Empire) with Episode II (AOTC) because I personally think the two "sets" of movies arel in a league of their own. They are completely different to me so I can't even compare the two.
EPII is definitly better than EP1, that much I will say. EPI had its good points, but there was so many annoying things about it that made it hard to say it was a good movie. I like it a little more now that I can make some more connections but the there are so many stupid lines in the movie. Between anakin and jar-jar I find it hard to pick which is worse
I also wish Lucas would have picked an older kid for EP1, the age difference just seems to great. In EP1, Anakin looks about 7 while Padmé looks about 17. In EP2, anakin looks 17 while Padmé looks... ...17?! In certain scense she looks older (maybe pushing early 20's). Seeing the two movies together, it just doesn't flow well, IMO. I also wish they would have been more consistant on digital effects. Yoda only had one *small* scene where he was digital in EPI (where he was walking near the end). In EP2 he's completely digital.... ...again it just doesn't flow well. But oh well, I don't think there was a single thing about EP2 which I didn't like. IMO, it held very true to the originals in it's own sort of way.

Having seen it, I would have to say that it was pretty good overall. It's not the bag of shit that EP1 was, but it does have its problems. The acting is mediocre at best, and the script is just garbage. I particulary enjoyed the fighting sequences at the end, some of the beginning, and a little bit of the middle. The movie starts out fine, then it goes bad, then it goes back to good again. I think its worth seeing again, particularly for the fight scenes. On a second note, the Digital Projection kicked ass, the sharpness was better than HDTV and the colors were extremely vivid. There were no "film artifacts" like those damn black spots and cigarette burns in the top right corner. This is the first movie i've seen on a Digital screen (45 minute drive to the DLP theater =-/ ), and quite frankly going back to 35mm will suck. HD cinema is the future =)
Welcome to the machine.
HT, I just didn't like the ending where Hans Solo was frozen and let it go at that and we had to wait for the next one to see what happens. To me that just cheapened it some. Otherwise I loved the movie, that part didn't ruin it for me because the rest was so good.
I also noticed the kid was too young in Episode I but that just went with how much that movie really suked.

And ok, now why does yoda need a stick to walk but when he fights he moves like a rockem sockem gymnacist. The force I presume eh.
I never liked yoda anyway but here he was at least more tolerable. The only time the croud laughed and cheered was when he got mad. Sorry, but he being a great fighter just ain't believable to me.

saw it yesterday...I was expecting it to be pretty good, but it just really blew me away. I find it interesting that no one has mentioned the score in this thread. I thought the music was awesome! My only problem with it are small ones, that I won't post just in case someone reads this who hasn't seen the movie yet. Yeah, but Padme in that white shirt, her nips were peakin!!!!!!! I swear she's so hot. I thought Anakin did a great job, there were a couple points in the film where his preformance just blew me away. I thought the movie was fantastic, and the only down sides I can think of are small ones that don't take away from the story. oh yeah, the one liner's sort of got to me......"this is such a drag", i cringed at that one.
My rating: 8.7/10

I bought tickets Friday night and caught it on Saturday. The place was packed with tons more arriving for the next showing. Going in with no expectations, it was great. The special effects were awesome, as usual. The story was good. Dialogue was ok and at times corny but I did not feel it took anything away from the movie.
The acting for the love story was a little weak. I felt Natalie Portman did a better job than Christensen with their character portrayals. The shortened name "Anny" they keep using throughout the movie just sounded so kiddy like since he was an older teenager about to become a man. That was my only irke. This was definitely better than Ep I.
... and yes, Yoda did kicked some major arse.
This was a long movie, but it did not feel that way at all. By the time the movie ended, I wanted more.
I guess that is the mark of a great picture.
I say *** out of four.
btw, I did not feel that Ep I was so bad. It wasn't great but not so terrible for everyone to diss it. Jar Jar and choosing a too young Skywalker was definitely a weak point but it has its good moments also.
Can't wait to see what happens in pt III.
