Truly a great movie

Post by blackhawk »

Never read the book but my young daughter went to see it and wanted to go again so took her with my wife and son.

Very well done, beautifully shot and paced well. Took me a while to figure out where it was filmed(New Zealand) but overall its going to be a classic.

When I saw the hobbit house, I thought "tele tubbies!" :D

That was THE best movie I have ever watched and yes that includes Aliens by a very fine hair.

Only because of the "fine hair" part I'll let you live. :D :P
I almost got a chubb

What's a "chubb?

Better than Aliens? When I left seeing Aliens I knew I saw one very awesome movie. When it came on video it had macro vision so I couldn't record it normally so I placed my vhs video camera in front of the TV on a tripod, got in as close as I could and recorded it. :D Wasn't too bad and was certainly watchable and it let me get my fix till it was released on ppv.

With some movies I have to let it seep in and think more about before I realize how much I do like it as I think tunis said. But I still liked it a whole lot. Never read the books so I had no clue what it was even about. Thought that kid would be more annoying but he wasn't. I admit there were some most eggselent acting in that movie. All around actually. And that to me was what kept it interesting.

Some real good special effects and how some were filmed to give the illusion something was larger than it really was. I liked that son of kong thing the best though. Just wish it was brighter in more parts of the movie, but most love to make things dark for mood and spookeyness.

Needed more babes though. :P

Very true about the Silmarillion Fantum, but unfortunately it is nowhere near as good as the Lord of the Rings. Of course, being as Tolkien died before that one was published and his son finished it, there is bound to be a bit of a difference, but in this case it just doesn't compare. Worth reading indeed, but LoTR will spoil you to the Sil.

Hehe, I figured you would have something to say about that Blade :)

If there is one shortcoming of the movie, it is that non-readers will have a much harder time knowing what is going on. For those of us who read the books, this movie is a seriously excellent adaptation that is incredibly true to the books. Add in spectacular fx, equally good acting and direction, and you have a truly excellent movie. No movie will ever fully replace Aliens but this one is now sharing the title spot with it. I have seen it twice, and now that I am back from vacation, I WILL be going to see it again, and again, and... :D

Oh, and BTW, a 'chubb' would be a stiffy, wood, mahoganey, hardon, boner, etc. :)

blade...
have i got a tip for you..
if you spend about $75 on the Apex AD1500 or AD1000, you can easily flash the dvd player to not only unlock the region setting, but also TURN OFF MACROVISION...

chottoED, I _think_ blade was talking about back in the VCR days and he couldn't afford to buy the $20 videocassette... but could afford a video camera... :)

Yes, what tunis said Ed. ;) But no tunis, tapes were around 4-5 then but Aliens had macro vision so copying tape to tape wouldn't work, it'd be all scrambled. Taping it with a camcorder in front worked. That was around 1986-87.

Now I have the DVD of Aliens. Have the video too but it'll just sit.
