Want opinions on HT system >$500

The Shiva would work pretty well in it....the 12inch Dayton DVC would be pretty great as well

I believe the Dayton would go a tad lower though.

Pioneer also makes some pretty nice receiver, I'm pretty happy with my 2 year old vsx-d608.

I wish I could say I believe those sensitivity ratings.....but I don't.
I know for a fact that the very woofers use in the $2200 RF-7's (or is it KF-7?) only have a sensitivity of 93.5db....and their rated to 96 or 97db.........

The c-1 center would be better because it can get a bit more bass....and it's more efficient than the sats so it takes less power to get sound out of it (almost always a good thing)

Thanks a ton guys! Here's what I'm thinkin' so far:

Klipsch Quintets (x4 sats)
Klipsch KSC-C1 Center
Klipsch KSW-10/12
Pioneer VSX-D510

I don't know which sub to get....I think it's about a $50 difference on ebay so I'll probably just get the 12 incher then. Unless I get the balls to make one myself. I'll have to look into it, cause I"M all for savin' money

I'm definitly going to look into recievers too and just evaluate what I need and what I don't need. I don't want to do what my friend did and buy some awsome ass reciever which has features he will NEVER use (it was like a $899 Onkyo reciever and his system doesn't even sound that good

)

But I think the reciever I have up there has everything I want by looking at the specs and it's a good price. I found it for $185 on ebay. IMO it's a great price

The 10inch Dayton Titanic still has 27-28mm of stroke.....believe me, when you (or your friends

True, it's better to spend the extra $$$ and get what you really want. It's only another $100

most subs are self-powered by an internal amp (like the ones we're talking about above), so the receiver only needs a sub output...so nothing special is required. most receivers also have adjustable crossovers to help control what frequencies are sent to the sub. the crossover is set depending on what your front speakers can handle in terms of bass, etc. normal crossover range is 80-120Hz.
