The difference is we're not use to that, racism has nothing at all to do with it. Remember we grew up knowing about superman and his special powers. Very few grew up knowing about asian films like this. It's "what we're use to".
At first I hated the movie. It lacked the quality and clarity, but maybe the theatre I went to had a bad copy. The lighting at times would get dim too and then get brighter, like a lightbulb going out. Subtitles I always hate but then I hate bad dubbing even worse.
As the movie wore on we fought the urge to leave and it became more interesting and we got use to those subtitles and with the idea they can jump far and climb walls. Well kinda, hehe. I do think it would have been far better if it depicted all natural abilities, but then I'm not at all familar with the previous asian films like this.
All that aside once I got use to it all I thought it wasn't bad. It had a real good story and the acting was good. If I were more familar with the background of that type of fighting I may have liked it more.
And that lil girl was cute too.
