'The Matrix' Reboot in the Works at Warner Bros

Why? Because $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

At this point, the Wachowski siblings, who wrote and directed the original and its two sequels, are not involved and the nature of their potential engagement with a new version has not been determined. Certainly, Warners would want the two filmmakers to give at minimum a blessing to the nascent project.
Is Hollywood that terrified to try new things? There are a lot of novels that could be made into good films assuming a good screenwriter and cast.

Really. The first (and arguably best) Matrix is great as it is. It doesn't need a reboot.

I'd love to see a couple of Robert Heinlein and Arthur C Clark novels done now that we have cheap CG.

Clark's Rendevous with Rama would make an awesome screenplay if they resist the urge to tamper with the ending.

I'd love to see a miniseries of Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress done as a miniseries by the people behind The Expanse.

Ready Player One is in post production but I worry they will ruin it. No word if it's one movie or a trilogy, but I can't see how they could cram that book into one film without butchering it.

A good Heinlein adaptation would be amazing. Starship Troopers could've been good had they worked in Heinlein's intent. I'd like to see Philip K. Dick's Ubik and Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said adapted.

Another lesser known author I really like is Paolo Bacigalupi. His book, The Windup Girl, is a very good dystopian novel set in Thailand where we've warmed the planet to the point that coastal cities had to build walls to hold back the ocean. The main theme of the book is genetic engineering gone too far. Corporations made genetically altered crops that were resistant to an engineered virus. Once they'd distributed their seeds, they released the virus to kill competitor's crops. People can also be engineered which is what Emiko, one of the stories protagonists, is. The book doesn't try to shove any message down the reader's throat. It's commentary on what can happen should we continue on on present course. The author also left the ending open and I perceive it as a bit ominous. I also don't want to see a sequel as the ending is perfect in my opinion and allows the mind to contemplate the consequences to the planet should this come to pass.

In all fairness, Starship Troopers is like it is on purpose. Don't mistake a movie that is largely misunderstood, for being a bad movie.

I meant to say it could've been better but I did get what the movie was going for. Of all the reboots and remakes, that's one I wouldn't mind seeing now that we have improved CGI.

It would be cool to have a Dynasty Warriors type game except Starship Troopers.

Daemon and Freedom by Daniel Suarez would be awesome. Should be at least one movie each or, better yet, a mini-series.

That's the really great thing about alternative production companies like Netflix, and the good thing about Sci Fi channel getting back to it's roots. SO many good sci-fi novels REALLY should really be a mini-series and not a movie.

Dune is an excellent example. The movie sucked, partially due to many other things but mainly because they tried to cram a HUGE novel into one movie. The Canadian mini-series they did years later was MUCH better, and if you've never seen it you should.
