While sleeping, I hear this yelling from upstairs calling me in a panicing voice. I grasp on to my last ounce of sleep while my mom flings open the door to tell me that my father has passed out and hit his head on the bathroom floor (concrete--it's 3:00 in the morning--he went to go use the bathroom). While hurring upstairs she tells me to grab the phone and call 911. It's now hitting me and I start thinking this MUST be serious. Now, she is in a little bit of a panic (still relativly calm) and she must not have rememberd that I JUST woke up and I an not aware of what the hell has going on!
So anyway, I pick up the phone and dial 911 while heading to my parents room. I hand the phone to my mom and my dad has gotten up from the bathroom floor. He's now sitting in the chair and looks alright. Kinda pale and sick looking, but he's all asking, "what's going on? Why are you calling 911, I'm alright. Tell 'em to turn around" about two seconds after that, he "melts" out of his chair (if you can imagine such a thing) and falls flat on his face. His right sholder is sorta twitching, almost like a seasure or something.
Right away, I'm thinking stroke (my great-grandma died from it). He does have high blood pressure, but usually people suffering from a heart attack, wouldn't just loose conscience like this and fall flat on their friggin' face.
So here I am starting to freak out, I don't know what the hell is going on. All of a sudden about 30 seconds later he gets back up as if nothing happend. He doesn't remember that he just fell flat on his face (which is scary) and he goes back to saying he's fine and all this crap.
Anyway, the fire-truck and ambulance gets here and he seems to be doing better. A little shooken up and everything. He ends up going to the hospital and they check his heart and do a catscan with some other stuff (checking for cancer or a tumor--which his dad died of around the age of 40--the same age as my dad) He comes home feeling alright, sleepy, but alright.
I'm still a little freaked out. I don't know what quite caused it, my mom is a nurse and she has this big long term for what she thinks happend. Its true what people say, though. You never know what you have until you loose it. I didn't loose anything, thank god, but it was close enough and I hope I don't have to ever experience anything like that again.

Cherish the time you have with your parents as they do not last forever. I dread the day I get the call from my mom or dad or relative saying one of them has passed on.

Woah that is scary. I have passed out like that too, but I hit carpet (thank god) I like didn't remember anything, I woke up on the carped with a bump on my head. It was like 6 in the morning. (stayed up since like 2 on the forums and got up at 6 to go get food or something)
Like hammer said. Everything hammer said is exactly the way I feel!

Being 45 myself, I can tell you that the good life ends at 35. It's all down hill from there. I freaked out my wife 2 years ago when I almost passed out on the couch. I woke up that morning, but my leg felt funny like I've been working out for 3 days straight, but it did not really feel like muscles though. After trying to walk to the breakfast table, it got pissed because it was still hurting and shook my leg violently and BOOM! I turned white as a sheet and almost passed out.
My wife calls the doc, and tell him what happened. The doc says, "get your ass to ER now!". What I had was a blood clot in my leg, and when I shook my leg, it broke off and began to travel through my body. I Spend 7 wonderful days in the hospital, and now I'm on Coudimun for life (a blood thinner). After running blood test, they discovered that I was born with a protein C deficiency.
So after knowing this, my next question to the doc was, "why did this happen now, not 20 years ago?". The doc says, "because your over 35, and that is when medical conditions seem to pop-up.
So, for you young guys out there, enjoy your youth because being young only happens once in your life.
Hope your dad feels better, and I hope he has it checked out to find the possible cause.

Thanks for the caring words. I'm just now starting to feel more relaxed. I've been tense from 3:00 in the morning. I got to skip school since my mom went with my dad to the hospital and I had to watch the kids. Hmm, lets see, I got about 5 hours of sleep. It's wierd that I don't feel tired though. Guess the adrenaline is still runnin' strong, heh.

I am very happy that everything turned out alright. Something like that will keep the adrenalin going for sure.
Maybe it's time to put in thick pading and carpet in that bathroom.
