whirlpool fridge light problem.

Post by reno »

I own a 3 to 4 year old Whirlpool wrf757sdhz00 french door Refrigerator. . about 6 month ago the freezer LED draw light seem to stop working . I didn't replace it because the part like $85.00 . good thing I didn't because as of today . the 4 upper LED lights in the refrigerator are dimming like bearly on .the 4 side lights in the refrigerator are still working fine fully bright . google it and not finding much as to a fix . one post did to said unplug the unit and see if that works . did that but no change in the lighting . did fine a couple of post on this problem . . but no real true repair paths to follow and they were on different model of whirlpool refrigerator but not my model do. also product support information on parts are not real clear as to wiring and tracing switches or sensors .

You could try contacting Whirlpool and see if it can be services. I doubt you'd even be able to get into the refrigerator to fix it as everything is made to be disposable these days.

The only think I can think of is that moisture has gotten into the lights. If you can get the lights out, you can try CRC on the contacts.

Sadly it's usually the voltage driver that fails on LEDs. I suspect each bank has it's own driver.

I also have A Whirlpool with LED's and while I love how bright they are, I also worry about them failing.

Looking online it seems some of these fridges have replaceable modules, but I suspect yours is like mine with individual small lights along the ceiling and walls, and not seeing any easy replacement at a glance on youtube.

Might be worth calling an appliance repair man with your model and see if they're easily replaceable.

I wish that instead of proprietary LEDs they would use regular 120 volt appliance bulb sockets with LED replacements. That's what I do on my microwave and range hood.

Even though all the lights in my new house are LEDs they are all standard bulb sockets so if they burn out they're easy to replace. I refuse to use specialty LED fixtures.

Mine look like this but smaller, so maybe they are easily replaceable.

Same, my shop lights are all standard shop lights that use LED bulbs that fit them. When I remodeled my house (gutted down to studs), I added recessed lights. They are standard can housings, but they have retrofit LEDs. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial- ... /303780877
